Planning my "boat cover"

Waiting on a quote, hope to get it later this year (delivered and installed). This is the "hard cover" for the boat. Will add concrete afterwards, but I think we are going to go with Wolf Barns out of OK. They built my barn as well. (the outside portion).

Looking at a 11.5' wide x 36' long and 16' tall (on the eaves) cover. They use 6x6 posts. The space I have is 10.5' wide max (due to the eaves of the garage and the fence posts for the gate).. so, having them make it 11.5 ft, so I can space it to use the full 10.5' opening.

The gables will be open, to allow for the wind not to catch it. I will tie it into the future deck roof and the future storage cover roof as well as the garden (using the posts, which should also help keep it earth-bound.

The picture is a top-down of the setup and the deck MAY get extended 2 more feet, to make the cover 38ft, not sure yet. We are pulling the wood deck out next year and installing a concrete deck to replace it and will extend the concrete for the boat, but also plan to add a covered area behind the barn since we will have posts for a garden anyway. Debating whether to concrete that... may do that myself over time.. no idea.

Then, in stages.. carry the concrete to the road for a driveway.

HoA balked at making a cover for the boat in front of the barn.. I think it would have looked better and they would have no way to deny it but would have cost twice as much and they would have made me fight it.. so.. don't care enough. I can back it into 10'5 just fine, so this works.

I also plan to add a "backstop" in the concrete, to keep it from rolling backwards too much, a sorta built-in chalk.

Anyway, 36 would mean about 1 ft hanging out, eh.. but it will be fine as I plan to have covers for the motors anyway.

The cost is a lot more for those extra 2 ft... but, who knows. Will run LED lights and a fan up top to keep it lit and comfy to work in.

Picture 3 is a short version of what it should look similar to... and there will not be a post on the end just a 11'5" opening.

Good move to invest in a toy shed. My only comment is on the opening. I've had a 10' door for an 8'6" boat and now have a 12' door. Sure you can back in an 8'6" boat into 10'6", but it gets a lot tougher at night, after a long day, spotters went to the house, glare and shadows from lights, mirror distortion, storm is rolling in or on you, etc. I personally wouldn't go less than 11.5' if you can find a reasonable way to make it work.

I need 9'3" clearance. I backed the boat into the shop doors and it is 10'...just cannot do it now that I have the trailer guides because the angle of the door. This is straight back so not a problem. 10'5" is all I have to work with unless I remove the gutters off the garage and not doing that due to the major water flow that would cause heh. So, should not be a problem.

Looks awesome. I just invested in a metal carport for mine. It is 36x22ft. The clearance is 10ft on the sides and 13 in the middle. Big enough to put both of my boats. GI am currently putting up the 3 metal walls. May also enclose the front of it if needed with a door. Nothing like sheltering your boat, especially here in sw fla.

Very nice, Spark. I may extend it 2 more feet and then enclose it later, but with the heat of Texas, having the wind flow keeps it cooler. I also play to add a fan to one end so when I am working on it, I can keep it cooler and the bugs away.
Your sides are 10’? I was planning on the sides being 16ft...aahh wait, I have trusses so yea, could not do the same way. HoA will not let me build an aluminum one heh. But what you have would be perfect.

Ty. An extra 2 ft can make a big difference. I made mine 22 wide instead of 20. I can walk completely around both boats comfortably. Hoa can really be unreasonable sometimes. Metal was very affordable. I got this one installed for around 5 grand and the metal to enclose is around 1500. You will really enjoy having an enclosure.
