Good morning, I have a 2002 282 Sailfish the port cabin window is leaking around seal/gasket. It allows water to come in while raining which is getting on shelves and sink area. I had the Grady White Dealer where I store the boat look at it over the winter. They "Stated" due to the age of the boat a replacement window or gasket could not be purchased. Frankly I don't think they put much effort in trying to help me find a solution.

There solution was too put sealer on it and close it forever, to never be opened again. I didn't like that idea. It has been a few months since being with the boat due to work issues, but going down for vacation for the next few weeks and seeking ideas or options for a repair and will do myself?

Thank you in advance.

Is it possible to put something on the existing seal (lubricant or silicone) that would enable a better seal? I noticed the same on my boat and am going to try a light layer of vasoline to start and see what happens.

That may be worth a try... I was thinking on adding a small strip of one sided weather stripping very thin? I have not stuck my face into the details of the issue but will next week. I need to see exactly what's going on, I was just hoping they would fix for me "Not"... Is it age, stress, pounding of the boat not sure? But the the shelve is getting wood rot and its going to get destroyed with no fix. Our Boat at 20 years is in really good shape and runs well so we I need to stay on top of this little things. Maybe someone will pop up with more options

I had the same problem in my Sailfish - the wooden shelf that is part of the decorative shroud around the window was rotten from the leaks - after replacing the wood and reinstalling I started experimenting with the locking mechanism on the window. I had always just latched them until they were tight which was about a quarter turn. If you push the latch all the way down, a full half turn they lock down good and tight and no more leaks, Hope your fix was as simple as mine! The boat is a 2004 so I think we have the same hardware

I have been having issues in last few times when I was at the boat and had water coming in. We had a good storm one night and I found water all the way over on the sink, so it seemed to be blowing in but can't find where/how. Window is totally shut.
I did find that the channel on the outside did not drain well, so I have drilled a drain hole in the rearmost part of the drain channel to see if that will help. I think the channel could not drain well and wind/heavy rains put pressure to allow it to blow in somehow.
I have new rubber channels I installed a few years ago and they seem to still be very tight on the glass......
The outside of the frame is well sealed with silicone, so I know that is not the issue.

Need to get back down and spend some more time to see if what I did fixed it or not. Winds blowing every weekend, so not been back down to check.
