I was just ready to splash my boat and so tried starting it with the ear muffs first. At first it started up but after about 2 minutes or so it stopped and was not able to start it up again. I changed the the primary fuel filter and put on another new 10 micron fuel water separator and tried again but no luck, it would not run for more than a few seconds and then stop. I did find some small black particles that looks like black sand at the bottom of both the fuel bulb and water/fuel separator when I emptied the old one out. There was also small black particles in the gas from the VST bleed. My fuel lines are the original from the boat which is a 2006 model. The question is, do I need to change out the fuel lines for new ones and will this solve the problem with the engine not starting or do I need to fix something in the engine as well? Thanks.

I do not know what the contamination is but regardless you may need to open the VST tank (high speed pump) and check the screen in there.
Also take a look at the on the motor filter housing (clear) and look at the level of the gas and of course the water level ring that should be sitting down at the bottom.
The gas filter should not be empty nor should it be completely full.
Did you try pumping the primer bulb when trying to start the motor??
The black sand you see may be in the fuel tank. I don't think that changing the fuel lines at this point will solve the issue.

There are three filters and the water separator in your system. The visible filter on the engine with the water float in it is the first. The next is between the low pressure pump and the VST. The third is inside the VST tank itself. Any one of those those filters can clog and create a problem.

Yes, the fuel was treated with star tron and the tank filled.to the top last October. I also witerized the boat by running Yamaha fogging mixture through the engine.
