Pulled first image. How does it look?

So, pulled the first lower end. Here is a video or picture, depending on upload, if anyone has thoughts. Honestly, looks pretty clean, considering a 2004 yam

Yes and no. I see some heavy pitting to the left side of first pic. Not a lot of white residue, but still see some concern there.

That was my first thought too.
If it was me I would just do the midsections and forget about it.

I do not have 2k to drop on it right now. I have not even had the thing in the water yet. I pulled the lower ends and one water pump had a single flat washer and a single wavy washer. The other one had a two flats and a wavy, so the person that did the older engine did it right, however, that engine looks like it was burning too right. There is a lot of built up black soot from the exhaust...and the section below that, filthy.
I did not put them back together yet.
Went to finally bleed the brakes and my friend broke the brake line....wrenched the line instead of the bleed valve.... the guy fixes cars...dumb mistake, accident...but now I have to order a new brake line to go across to the other side of the axle...

this is the story of my freaking life...
So, either I try to clean these engines up and let them make it a few more months till I can save up a couple thousand bucks for the repair parts, or the boat sits and I save it up.

I am leaning on the sitting as I can take a little extra time and fix other smaller stuff along the way.

but, March is the 1 yr mark...1 yr and not in the water...and come hell or high water, I am not missing snapper season heh.

Btw, will get MUCH better pictures when it is darker outside and a flashlight can do more good.

You've got some time. It will get real shiny and lots of pitting and metal wear/exposed with it gets bad. The biggest thing is the plate under the power head. If that is breached - a new power head or worse is required.

well, it looks dirty in the exhaust one the older engine. It looks like it was running rough, not pitted...i.e. too rich.

the other one does not look near as bad,but not pitted, so yea, if it can wait a few months, I would rather replace the oil and see how that looks for now...and get the dang trailer fixed.

surprisingly, I am not really mad about all this, maybe numb...lol..but I honestly am enjoying making it a solid boat vs rushing, and...it really is a solid boat...just disappointing is all.

I know me...I am stubborn and won’t take shortcuts however, if I can hold off on the exhaust issue till after the summer, then I can spend a few thousand and do it right.

We will see.

Okay, I lied.... did not get pictures.. lol....I got to cooking dinner.. and then, it was late.. and I was tired

I did, however, wake up at 2am..(thanks dogs...).. and could not sleep, so ordered the new washers and brake line. I decided to get the entire rest of the brake line replaced. Originally, I replaced the line from the tongue to the rear axle. With this, time, I will replace the line from the "T" where that comes to, to each axle.... was only like 50 bucks.. heh. I did not trust the "T" they has, all green and corroded and it would have sucked to try to replace only the line that was broken and had that snap.
Forgot to order the friggin new breaker for the dashboard switch panel though heh... gotta pull that and get the part number.

Lol.. That was my plan. Save up for the engine rebuilds (exhaust...I hope that is all) and make sure to add in a real and full inspection of both engines... but when the parts come in, finish the water pumps and then get the oil changed etc.. and give her at least a shakedown run.

I think the engines are okay enough to make it through at least a season, but the oil will tell me more. Either way, I am fine with whatever. This is not a short term boat, so it will not need to be a short term fix.

They look good to me. Similar to my 225 that has had update. You have lots of hours left to fish and save money. Good find on the water pump washers though!

yup - happened to me and it costs 56K to replace 2 engines. the year prior scoping showed no corrosion

So, spoke with the wife. The plan, so far, is we will keep this boat till hell freezes over, I get approval to get a 33 (lol!...okay, I just added that), I can no longer run it, or it blows up...

now, if I go buy a 33 right now, it will also blow up...lol

so, I will keep it going, do any and all maintenance it needs to be tip top, and make sure to baby it to keep it as good as possible for the next 6-9 months.

Sometime in the next 6-9 months, I will have a professional inspection. No matter what they find, we will keep it going as long as we can. God willing, we will pay off the truck or something else and then re-power when the first engine shows any sign of issues. It will cost as much as a new truck,and we will never get our money out of it, but I am not in the boat selling business, I am in the boat enjoying business heh.

So, cross your fingers these engines can last a bit. I do not mind if I have to spend a few thousand, but if I have to spend 10, I am re-powering.

so, may do the exhaust next year if need be, but if they wear the heck out before, I only need 6-9 months to prep for it to save myself a heart attack and marriage lol

Does anybody have some comparison photos, or links to them to show good these exhausts in good condition, early stages, and "needs replaced" condition? I am pulling my lower units so I went ahead and ordered a scope to attach to my tablet that takes video and still shots with a light. Need to know what I am looking for... I too have 2004 F225s....

^^^ agree. It really isn't that bad yet, but the coating is compromised in some areas. You could run them another season and recheck. This way you will be able to have some time photos and make better decisions.
