Question on 1994 208 Adventure

I am re-powering with yamaha 150hp 4 stroke, boat does not have a hard-top, and I generally run with minimum load.
Question is prop style, aluminum or stainless, and prop size?
any ideas would be appreciated. TY Jim

I had a 192 that I repowered in 04 with f150 and put on the black steel prop on it. Steel is a little more expensive but it has less flex than aluminum so performance is better. Given your boat is heavier than 192 I would go with steel. I found switching to a 4 blade prop with my boat improved hole shot, cruising speed and in turns when pulling water toys. You may want to consider this as well. That f150 is an awesome motor.

x2 on what Smoky said. The F150 is right at the minimum power for that boat, slightly under-powered for my tastes, so going stainless and possibly 4-blade should help. Your prop shop should allow you to sea trial a few different props to see what works the best.

I suspect that the boat will definitely be underpowered. In addition, the scuppers may ride below the water line due to the extra weight. On newer hulls weight was added forward to balance the boat when powered with 4s.
The extra weight of the 4s will be about the same as an extra medium sized adult sitting on one of the rear lockers.

Repowered my '99 208 Adventure with a Mercury 150hp Verado. I know it is supercharged compared with the Yamaha, but I don't think the boat is underpowered. The boat hops right up on plane and makes about 38 mph WOT with close to 4 mpg at cruise. Initially, I had an aluminum prop but it cavitated in the turns and in a following seas. Changing to a stainless steel prop (Mercury Inertia), the caviation stopped and gives me the performance quoted. The boat does not have the extra weight of a hard top.

Hi Guys, Gezijamez I would not be too concerned with being underpowered with no hard top and a light crew, I have the same, usually two on board with fishing or prawning gear. Not sure what is meant by some of the comments regarding this. I have an F150 on a 208 running a Yamaha Reliance 15 pitch. 40 mph @ WOT 6000 trimmed up, cruise at 4300 at 26 mph comfortable y. Yes I live on the pacific west coast and am familiar with the lump that can happen, since one cannot speed through this condition, not sure where the extra power is needed. My friend has the same boat with an F200. Hanging an extra 100 lbs.on the stern does nothing to improve clearing the scuppers, but may have a little more pepper at top end and SLIGHTLY quicker getting out of the hole. I get on plane in approx. 4 second with a permatrim which I believe helps. Anyway just my humble opinion regarding the best boat I have ever owned. No doubt there will be those who don't get the same performance and will question my sanity, but it won't be the first time that has been challenged. Cheers, trapper

I have a 2001 208 with a SX150. It is fine for one or two people. If I fish with three adults, I can notice a difference on the time to plane.Not a big deal with a smaller fuel load. If I run two poeple AND a full tank of gas, I notice a much bigger difference. I usuall run with half a tank or so. Again, the time to plane is much longer. The difference in handling and time to plane between a half full or less tank and a full tank has more impact than adding another body.

I had a 2005 208 with a F200 and thought it was under powered. I currently have a 2003 208 with hardtop with 200 hpdi. It is the ideal power, light, fast, plenty of power. I feel that is what you should consider. It jumps out of the hole, Runs about 50 WOT, cruises low 30s at 4000rpm. I am completely happy with this combo.
