I saw a 1978 Grady White Dolphin that I am interested in. Here are the issues:
A crack on the Transom
One of the bolts that hold the outboard is sunk into the fiberglass
The swim ladder was removed and the wholes are not covered spidered and puffed gel coat around
Floor Crack next to the fish box
Fuel tank cover has couple of soft spots
Seats need to be re upholstered
Engine is a 1986HP Mercury cruiser that is oil injected that got changed to conventional mix in the gas tank.
The engine has been winterized in 05 and the fuel stabilized and not been started since then.
Trailer is 1964

What should I pay for that boat? He is asking $3000

Any help will be greatly appreciated. I lloed at NADA and low was $2085 and high was $2325. I am thinking price should be between $1600 to $1800.

Thanks,

Sal

Tell him you wont charge him to take it out of his yard for him.

Sound like a lot of work and $ if your not doing the work yourself.

your pics did not come over, look @ "how to post a pic" thread

Sounds like the transom is gone

Take the cost of what youll spend to fix all the problems plus the cost of the boat, i'm sure you could find a better boat for that money.

Whooooooaaa!
"Engine is a 1986HP Mercury cruiser that is oil injected that got changed to conventional mix in the gas tank."
STAY AWAY!!!!!

probably "got converted" when the oil pump sh@t the bed!

Change what i said, charge him to take it out of the yard

Thanks for the reply

I will attempt to repost the pictures

No offense but why do you want that boat? Do you want a project/nightmare?

I wouldn't trust that trailer too much and it'll probably fall apart on the ride home.

Transom is shot, the motor is questionable and I doubt it's been taken care of that well when it was running.

After they get the boat to you house, maybe give them $100 if you're REAL talented.

Thanks guys

I will pass on the boat. But still that year 1978 to 1980 Dolphin in good coondition what kind of money are we talking about? I like the style of the old Dolphin 200

the sad thing is, this was once a brand new, shiney beauty of a boat. I makes me sick to think of the incremental abuse/neglect that led to it's current condition. It's like a serial killer was once a sweet little happy baby. WHAT HAPPENS???????

If you get it for free you have paid too much.

Take it from someone who has just spent a year gutting and repairing years of neglect on my 81 weekender.

I'm almost positive this boat was on ebay couple of months ago.The guy who won the bid was(i think) from n.j or the boat was in n.j not remember very well, but the winning bid was 100 bucks, or somewhere in that vinsinity.Stay away, was a donated boat.

It's a project boat, new transom, perhaps new stringer grid and coring. It's all about the wood. Grady uses plenty of it

Is that what you want ? Some guys do.

You mentioned seat cushions, I don't take it you are looking for such a project boat.
