Interesting idea. How do you mount the PVC pipe cap? Doesn't the speaker need air behind it to function? Back in the day it was all about the air in the enclosure on how well the speakers and sub sounded.

Might upgrade to the Polk Audio Atrium 5's in the spring for the box speakers. See if I can get a little more low end out of them. 100W per channel. The WM boxes aren't holding much. They work, but I can't crank up the volume much without distortion. Should pair up nicely with the Poly-Planar in the inspection plates.

Got the speakers in today with a budget gem of a digital 4 channel amp. Bridged it to 2 channels for now. So putting out 160 RMS x 2 now will probably use 80 x 4 when I figure out what I’m doing for rear speakers. FYI this is a 1000 watt amp but only really produces 80x4 on the dyno. Still it’s perfect for $89.

Speakers need air space sealed ideally for tight full range sound but 6” speakers don’t need much. Grady doesn’t leave much room with curved hardtop. And they are positioned overhead so are very clear and loud. Hopefully hear them while on plane.

I may paint the grills white when it warms up. Check out 6” pipe caps if you can find them. They are tough and glossy. 1/4” thick plastic, making them very strong. OD is same as 6.5” speaker.

Another spring project.

Picked these up to replace the cheesy West Marine ones. Hopefully I'll get a little better sound out of them. Was going to order the Pyle's but they required an amp to push them. Wasn't interested in having to add an amp. We'll see how these do.

Looks good, Ya gotta be better than West Marine's. An amp may solve your distortion problems at loud volume but if you don't want the hassles of installing one. Look for speakers with a sensitivity rating above 90. That is an important spec when looking for speakers that will be loud and clear. It shows the efficiency rating which is important when not using an amp.

A sensitivity rating tells you how effectively a speaker converts power (watts) into volume (decibels). The higher the rating, the louder your speakers will play with a given amount of amplifier power. Sensitivity is often measured by driving a speaker with one watt and measuring the loudness in decibels at one meter.

I had those on my boat, and I think I still have them in the shed somewhere, but the brackets broke when trailering the boat back from the east coast. Called up PP to see how much replacement brackets were and they were more than the cost of just swapping them out with some inexpensive replacements. I believe they're Dual brand speakers, but they're definitely quite cheap and started rusting not long after installing them. I'll likely just put the PP speakers back on as I believe they both still work just fine.
