Re power 2000 seafarer with 4 stroke

Hey everyone new to site great place,
I am almost ready to pull the trigger on Repower if my 2000 seafarer 226 which has a 2000 Yamaha OX66 200 Hp. Great motor. I am looking at the 225 hp V6 Yamaha offshore 4 stroke, just concerned on how the boat will sit with this type of weight and performance, 2 marinas told me no issue as long as the transom is solid which it is! Has anyone done this on this type of set up?

Just repowered with a F250 from a OX66, 225. No difference in draft. Big difference in performance and refinement. For me the weight difference was less than 30lbs.

Lite Tackle thanks for that information what year is your 226 seafarer ? The weight I am told from the F225 oil and fluids was around 610 lbs

1999. Same hull as yours. The F250 (4.2l) weighs the same as the F225, 551lbs. Not sure it’s 60lbs in fluids, but you will be freeing up the weight and space of the 2 stroke oil tank with swap.

Great point I was at the boat show in Boston and got that number from a dealer he said the motor with fluids was near that weight. Did you have and issues with the self bailing scuppers dropping below the water line? Thank you for all your input

I also have a Yamaha T9.9 hanging on the transom (stern side). At rest, the waterline is just below the scupper but as I said it was the same before the swap and I understand it was that way since 2004 when the kicker was installed.

Not much difference in weight between the OX66 and the 4.2 , maybe 30 llb as stated above and you save 20 lb from the oil tank, the old 3.3 is much heavier.

Will enjoy seeing what you go with. I have 2 f225's 2004 models. Was debating and researching, not soon.. lol.. and was thinking a couple nice 175s or 200s may be less expensive, but give me plenty of power.. but, eh.... if it is only 1-3k more to get 225's back, who knows, but doubt I would splurge for dual 250s..

Can you imagine if dual 300's were light enough? lol.. yea, that would be nuts.

Anyway, looking very forward to updates on what you get and a ballpark on overall costs, if you do not mind. Curious what all you need to swap out with newer and possibly not Yamaha engines, if you go that route.

I was all set to go 250....and a buddy said you need to go 300. Uhh...yeah....300 it is.
