Good morning again,

Does anyone have experience in building or using a battery type hold down to take the place of the metal, factory hold down plate system?

I know of the substitute stainless unit but I would prefer not to go there. The tank is the yamaha 10.5 litre plastic tank.

Suggestions are appreciated.

Thanks, Capt1947

I forget what thread(s) I talked about this in, but yes. Been doing it for about 3 or 4 seasons, now. I can't fathom any reason to buy a $100 tank hold-down when a $10 battery tray and strap will work. If it can hold a battery, it can sure as heck hold the oil tank. A group 24/27 works perfect.

When I had my Sailfish with 2 stokes that is exactly what I did. The expensive metal one also was a poor design as it shorted out one of my remote tank pumps and corroded the other. I had to replace both remote pumps.

I used a piece of paracord 2 years ago when I noticed my straps were rusted on my 2000 272 Sailfish. I can reach them through the access hole and thru the rear seat and they are holding up well
