Morning,
Anybody know where I can order new newmar windlass buttons for my freedom 285? Mine are pretty worn out and dry rotted.
They're located up on the bow next to the anchor locker
Thanks

Any halfway decent marine store can get them for you. Also, any "windlass foot switch" brand will work. Just double check the size and screw location (although it's no big deal if it's not exact). But there's all kinds of options, even through Lewmar - including SS covers. Look on their website and then find an online retailer if you don't want to (or can't) buy locally.

Here is the link to the Lewmar switch models. Find the one that matches yours and then search for that part number.
Some of the Lewmay products are fairly expensive and as mentioned, the switches do not have to be Lewmar

Guys, don't get too wrapped up in this -- hint, you already are :) -- it's just a dumb switch. On/off. That's all it does. It makes a contact, then breaks that contact. In NO WAY does the windlass, itself, care about brand or model.

In theory but there are functional differences. Some switches have buttons on them enabling operation without having to lift the cover. The OP's look like button type.
Secondly for the anal retentive group, some models come in two versions, either with the words Up and Down or with an up arror or a down arrow. I can see how that could be useful ( I said UP not Down #%!*)

All very true.

However, there is no reason that the new ones have to match the originals, you know? Get the kind that you like. For example, personally, I don't like the kind with the button thru the lid. They're prone to deteriorating MUCH faster from UV exposure. My main point is simply that ANY switch will do the job. After that, it's all personal preference.

Agreed mostly. The Up/Down indications are handy when you ask your first mate to run the windless up:)
