Starting a new project. Replace the facia and compartment doors under the helm and companion seats. Replace the tackle box on the back of the companion seat. Offshore Eddy in Cape May will fabricate them out of Seafoam Starboard. I'll update thread. Eddy saves these templates so if anyone is interested he can do them for you. No pricing yet - I'll put that up too.

Not sure what latches you have but GW uses a lot of Southco latches.

Hi,
I’d love to see the specs. on your new doors. I have to replace 2x my aft battery panel/door. (1984 Sailfish 255) See pics.
Are you using original hinges?
What’s the thickness of the new material?
How’s the finishing on the edges?
Thanks

Mine are very different. Offshore Eddy has them and will start on the design next week. Because mine are a "frame" that inset the cabinet. It will be 3/4" Starboard that is edge routed. The finished edges are radius. Hinge type will be same as original piano hinge and same latch/lock.

I'll put installed photos up tomorrow.

Cabinet doors are recessed like the original frames. 3/4" Starboard is cut down to 1/4" for a 1/2" recess.
Finished Detail.jpeg

Here are the finished cabinet doors. One cabinet has drawers that the frame attaches to. Another had a storage area the was re-built and the last one is just a frame for the cabinet under companion seat.

Here are the old one for comparison.

About $250/panel depending on misc options. Comparable to www.BoatOutfitters.com . Call Offshore Eddy in Cape May, NJ

Those are good looking hatches. Thank you for sharing the pics.

I’ve never been to boat outfitters.com before. Those guys seem to love boat hatches. There’s some good info on their site.
I have a bit of a rookie question. Is Starboard/King Starboard material just HDPE polymer material?
I’ve seen it in threads online but I’ve never seen it in a store here. (Coastal BC, Canada).
I’ve had good experiences with sheet HDPE, (Shout Out to Fantastic Plastics in North Vancouver, BC) and I’ve read the debates btwn HDPE vs. UHMW. But never worked with Starboard.

Thanks.

Not sure exactly what Starboard is made up of but it’s the right choice for boat projects. Cuts, routes and sands like wood. Has a mild texture finish Should be available in Canada.

Looks REALLY nice!

Marcus, yes Starboard (a "brand" name) is simply HDPE. Same as a plastic cutting board, actually. Comes in many flavors.

Dennis - With all due respect Starboard is not "simply" HDPE. They went thru the trouble of creating color choices that work for boaters and have a mild texture on it.

Otherwise if you go to a local plastics company for HDPE you take your chances (cutting board white?) on what you get. Starboard comes in 6 or so boating colors.I doubt you will get the same color choices or finish texture on standard HDPE. And YES you will pay a little more.

I didn't mean "simply" as in Starboard is basic or cheap. Just that the MATERIAL it is made from is HDPE. There are other brands of HDPE that are quite similar to Starboard. Taco Metals, for one.

Marcus is in Canada and had never heard of that brand but seems familiar with HDPE. So I simply wanted to verify for him that he was correct about the material in case he had access to the material but under a different brand name.

Hi Marcus, I have used Starboard quite a bit on my Seafarer, bought mine at Industrial Plastics in Courtenay across the moat from you, lots of colours but I think it’s called sand that matches close to the Grady off white color, cheers Don

"Faded Grady White" is what I call my 25yo gelcoat. Hard to match to Starboard colors but they have the best selection.

King StarBoard® is the original marine-grade high-density polyethylene sheet and the leading brand in the marine industry.
It is the product of a proprietary process called K-Stran™, the most advanced manufacturing process for superior flatness and consistency. King StarBoard® has a matte finish on both sides of the sheet. It is environmentally stabilized to withstand the harshest outdoor conditions.

Starboard is certainly the most used in the boating world, overpriced but available in 8 "boating" colors what is probably the biggest advantage.

The woodgrain HDPE sheets would make nice panels on boats too
