Hello,

I have an opportunity to get a used 2018 mercury Verado 350. I have a '98 232 with a single OX66 on grady drive. Has anyone done a similar conversion? 350 too much? Its what the placard says is max but I haven't seen any (of this vintage) above 300 for single. Weight dif ~200, not sure if I can add flotation or should be looking for new bracket.

Thanks!

Grady-White will NOT, repeat NOT hang a 350 of any make on gulfstream built before 2010, I think. According to the people I spoke with the transom is not strong enough to withstand the massive torque that the 350 puts out.

Thank you! I passed on the opportunity.

How about the zuke 300 duo prop? I am getting ready to repower my 98 gulfstream from my original single 250ox66 and I really want the duo prop advantage for docking. The damn 300 duoprop weighs the same as a 350 though which kills me. Carolyn over at Grady said for the 98 vintage not to hang anything more than 600lbs on it due to the weight and the torque combination for the bracket. She was more concerned about the performance with the bracket not the structural integrity of the transom.

I had looked into zuke 300 duo. Pretty wild quotes around 40k though so I paused that search. Was your friend Carolyn talking about keeping the existing grady drive/bracket with no adjustments?

Thanks!
Greg

Yes keeping the existing bracket with no adjustments. The f300 or zuke 300 will bolt on with no changes. And wow! That’s a fortune for the duo prop. What was your quote on a regular 300?

Thanks for the info. I hope that includes controls, prop, and install. These prices are outrageous lately.

Yup thats an everything estimate, I believe including a bracket to be fair. Sorry did this exploring last fall. Screen Shot 2022-04-26 at 1.56.04 PM.png

From the looks of that estimate that doesn’t include a new bracket. You probably didn’t need one. But still a fair price given the things I’ve seen lately. Where was this estimate from if you don’t mind me asking?

I put a Suzuki 300 on my 2001 232 the Summer of 2019. Your quote is just about 10% higher. With the way things are going with the economy right now, sounds about righ. The Suzki has been great on that hull! Twin 150-200 would probably be bette, but the 300 is worlds better than my old 250 Yamaha OX66!

What are you topping out at with the 300? Are you using the stock 3 blade prop with the new 300 or did you go with a 4 blade?

My friend has had a Suzuki 350 duo prop on his 92' Grady Gulfstream for 4 years now. Goes great. Boat is so dang heavy, it really benefits from 2 props.
