Anyone repowered their 225 with the new Yamaha F200 inline 4? The crankshaft on my 1996 200 hp Saltwater Series broke off just below the flywheel so debating whether its worth it to rebuild or repower. The weight of the F200 looks pretty similar so not concerned from that standpoint but was wondering if I should expect the same performance as that old 2 stroke which I always found really good. Thanks.

I've been contemplating the same option.

If nothing else, you will have a legitimate 200 hp at the prop. 20 years ago the HP was measured at the powerhead and so it wasn't really 200 where the prop met the water.

You will have no weight problems...I'd expect better fuel economy...and marginally better performance.

Let us know how it goes....

There is a fellow Grady-man here that says new motor=new boat. The fuel economy will be better. The smell at idle will be nicer. The sound at idle and lower rpms will be quieter. The peace of mind of having a reliable motor is priceless.

I re-powered with the inline 4 and couldn't be happier. Just finished breaking her in. Performance is the same and everything else I've heard about running a 4-stroke is true and then some. It really does feel like a new boat. Would highly recommend this engine to anyone thinking of doing the same.

I have a 2013 Freedom 225 and I had to settle for the F-200 6 cyl cause I couldn't make the numbers work for a 250. Everyone recommended I go with the old 6 cyl F-200 rather then the new 4 cyl 200. So that's what I did. I was told something about the new 4 cyl having a mid-range hole in the power curve, but I have no idea how accurate that is. Still it's nice to know the new 4 cylinder 200's are working for everyone repowering their 22's.
