I have a 1990 25' Sailfish with the original 200HP 2 stroke motors. I am having trouble with one of the motors and after 2 mechanics and a ton of cash I'm nearing the end, still having issues. Its also difficult to find a shop that will work on 2 strokes and with the age that makes it even harder. I inquired about replacing with new 200 4 stroke and have looked into the extra weight issues and relocating the scuppers. I'm ok with that but the new motors are 52 weeks out for all brands.

The questions. I can get new150 HP Mercury motors in 2 weeks. I'm concerned that may not be enough power. Grady said that 150's were an option when the boat was new. I only use the boat in the ocean so its not like I need to go 40MPH.

I would appreciate any thoughts.

Thank you.

The Gulf stream is 3 in narrower and 400 lb less than your boat. It runs very well with 150 Yamahas. Taking that into consideration and the power that the 150 Merc puts out, I think it'll get the job done reasonably well. The Merc 150s are so light I doubt you'll need to make an adjustment on the scuppers.

Thank you for the info.
