repowering 2001 282 sailfish

Looking to repower my 2001 282 sailfish. Was thinking of honda 250 4 strokes. any Ideas on how this would be?
 
Probably fine.
I have a 1998 272 and had the original 225 OX 66.
Then the 3.3L F250 Yamaha, when my port motor took a crap I sold the starboard and fouls a deal on
a pair of 2014 F300 DEC motors and love them.

250's should push your boat very decent

I have the same boat and engines. Do the F300s cause the 272 to ride low in the water/scuppers? Are you pleased with them and any suggestions? I currently have original engines and I am hoping to avoid a re-power so any advice/experience is appreciated.
 
I have a 2006 282, repower if with twin suzuki over winter. Mine is rated for 600hp
 
I repowered my Sailfish in 2017 with F250. I had had it powered with F225s. The 225 were great engines for that boat and the 250s are a significant upgrade in terms or thrust and top end. Top end now is around 50 mph and it is seldom used at that speed but it is there if you need it. I opted for the mechanical version of the 4.2L engines so I could use my current controls and saved several K in the process. Good Luck
 
IDK, is Honda innovating these days? What about service in your local area. For me, a good price on a motor that is well serviced in my area are the two biggest factors.

2002 hull

I considered repowering to the Zuke DF250’s. Opted just to retain my F225s and make some repairs. The 225s are plenty IMO. She tops out at close to 45 and at that speed and it can get a little hairy. Plenty of bottom end. I’d have only done the 250s because, well, why not?

I think you wouldn't go wrong with either the Yam or Suzuki 250 four strokes.

well ...
the props he sent me were 3x16x17 and not 3x16x18.5
i gave them a shot by going on a trip but they overspun and
fuel consumption was super high
he says he has a set 4x15.25x22
i heard good stuff about the 4 blades but i have not tried them before
will have to wait till the weekend to try them

i saw somewhere here on the forums that the 4 blades worked nicely will give it shot

hi

i did another test today this time with
4x15.25x22 props
fuel tanks full 220 gal
regular load on board
2 guys on board
hole shot is not bad but not that great
WOT at 6100 rpms i got 40 knots
if i keep pushing the throttle i will over rev
i think i am right on the edge there
fuel consumption at 22 gph on each engine
should i keep them
should i still consider the 3x16x18.5 as others said and have tried
could i have a problem with the mounting hole height
iam on the 3rd hole up and the cavitation plate is just right
(the hpdis were on the 2nd hole up)
still not satisfied with the results
 
My 250 Yamaha on a Sailfish have 151/2 x 17 and i get 6000 RPMS and get close to 50 mph.I had 15 1/4 and they only delivered aound 5400 RPMs. Both were 3 blade

If you can over rev it with 22" pitch ( I think the range should be between 5700 and 6300) going down to 18.5" is not the answer she will over rev much easier. You may need to go to a bigger pitch like 23 or even 24". $ blades will get you up on the plane quicker but somewhat less top end than 3 blades all else equal.
Don't try to compare Zuke props with Yamaha because they have different final gear ratios.
