I have a 1991 24' Offshore that I am wanting to repower. Will a 2008 200 hp Yamaha be enough power to push 4 guys and a full load on the boat?

I wouldn't recommend it. I felt the 225 on my 24' was a dog.

I have a 250HP on a bracket of my Offshore. That is WAY more than enough - even with 4 or 5 people in the boat, Ibarely need to use 1/3 throttle to get on plane. The boat is amazingly quick out of the hole with practically no bow rise. I have no doubt that a 200HP would work well on the boat. Where I could see the 200 having to be worked harder is fighting heavier waves - when you're on and off the throttle all the time.

Just for comparison sakes I have a 2008 23’ Jones Brothers Light Tackle edition that is certainly a lot lighter with less deadrise then the 24 offshore GW. The 24 Offshore is a lot more boat !! My Jones is powered with a Yamaha F250 four stroke and is the perfect power match set up, it’s no slouch but I wouldn’t call it a rocket ship. IMO you would want a minimum of 250hp on that boat. 300hp is where I’d be.

The dry weight of your boat is pretty similar to the dry weight of my 2004 GW 228 Seafarer, which mine has a 2004 Yamaha F225 on the back of it, and I honestly don't think I'd want anything smaller than that. If it was just you and another buddy and minimal gear then I'd say yeah it'll probably get the job done, especially with the perfect sized/pitch of propeller, trim tabs, moving some weight forward into the bow and so forth. With 4 guys, especially if they're anywhere near the average size or girth of a typical fisherman, as well as fully loaded with gear... I think the boat will struggle a bit to get on plane. You could always contact GW and see if they have any performance data on your boat with a 200 hp outboard on it though? They just might, which will give you top speed, fuel economy, optimal cruising speeds and other performance numbers.

Thanks to all for the responses. I think I will move forward by repowering with a 250 hp. I would hate to have any regrets later if I fall short on the horsepower.

Like I mentioned above, from actually owning the same boat, 200 would do it. BUT... in the HISTORY of boating, NO ONE has ever muttered the words: "Shoot, I shoulda bought the smaller engine!" :)

Just my opinion, I also have a '91 Offshore. I have twin 150's. Yamaha. They do the job. I don't think you will be happy with 200HP.

I have had 2 different Offshores...1st one had a Yammi 250...brand new...topped out at 41mph...light load and trimmed .....2nd one I bought with a 225 E Tec.....tops out at 37mph...and I have never felt under gunned. I fish and cruise a bit...no tubing or skiing
The way things are today...if that 200 is what is available and what you can afford...go for it. You will enjoy your boat....IMHO it will not be a pig. You just might want to not load up with 4 or 5 fatsos and 150 gallons of fuel.

I have a 200 HP mercury 2-stroke on my offshore. Tops out at 37 MPH. I never run it at WOT for any extended period of time. Typically run at 3600 - 4500 RPM and am fine at that range. Just curious, will repowering with newer four strokes cause transom scuppers to go below the water line? I've always been concerned with the extra weight of the 4-strokes.
