Repowering a 330

I found a great deal on a 2018 330 Express with low hour Yamaha 350's (ugh I know) and 2018 version of helm master. I got a quote to repower with twin new Yamaha offshore 350's, and all new Helm Master controls with EX Joystick, hydraulic steering to electric for around $100k including a new trailer. At that point I'll have $400k in it. Does this cost seem reasonable? Am I completely nuts? I did a sea trial on another 330 with twin Yammy 425's and they were loud as hell and quite thirsty so not wanting to go in that direction. Any advise on the new 350's or the difference between the first Helm Master Series and the new EX would be greatly appreciated.

I'd run the hell out of the existing motors, and save the extra 100k for other costs. The 2018 should be the later series with much fewer issues.

Nice boat and looks like you can definitely get some more hours/years on those engines.

Its hard to find clear information on those 350's except that the series C were better. When the flywheel goes out can it destroy the top end of the motor as well? Is there an expiration date on Yamaha's warranty on that issue?

Went through same decision last year, new 330 6-700k on sale. repowered with 450 w helm master and electric steering, well worth it to me compared to 300s. 2018

Keep the 350s. I'm not a Yamaha guy, but wouldn't hesitate to own that version of those engines. You will get a reminder to replace the flywheels when you have accumulated enough hours in the rev range that creates the harmonics. If you avoid that range, they will almost never need to be replaced. If you don't, Yamaha replaces them for free. As long as you keep them serviced as required, they will likely rot out before you ever wear them out - and that's a long time.

350's have a bad rep that's for sure... but if you read all the threads on them, it seems people who own them love them. Before you do anything, confirm which model of 350 those are. I beleive by 2018, the "C" version was being made... here's a review of them from 2016

350C introduction

I would not hesitate to run those on a 330 express. Mine has 300's and I feel it could use just a little more kick in the ass. 350's would be perfect. Actually, V10 merc 400's would be really nice on this hull. Prob not much heavier than the f350 v8 and lighter than yamaha 425's which now are 450's.

I refused to buy a 2008 Canyon with 2008 F350 because of the bad reputation, and in fact ex owner paid big money for repairs on both motors.
However, afaik, the last C series are rather sturdy and do their job flawless, except the flyweel problem Family Affair described perfectly..
If i would need to repower the 330 then i would install the new Honda BF350 as they will be superior to the F350 V8, but as already mentioned by many, that will be a expensive repower.
Options would be to install twin Suzuki DF300, boat will most likely not be a speed demon, but hey, it's a Express style boat.
More expensive would be the DF300B with duoprops or the duoprop DF350, duoprops work!
Most older 30ft+ GW's here in Italy have 300's and they do just fine.

keep what you have and run the boat. Consider the flywheel thing to just be another maintenance item. If it was an earlier model F350, then that's a different story. Use the money for other boat upgrades and fuel.
