Sailfish Power

Hey guys. I've pretty much decided to upgrade to a "2005ish" 282 Sailfish. My question is to you Sailfish owners or guys who have experience riding on them: How do you like your power set-up? Is 225s enough or are 250s more ideal. Performance #s would be a huge help. I really don't want to spend money on another underpowered boat (my current Gulfstream w/250hp). Any insight is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance guys

I have a 2000 Sailfish (bought new) powered with twin 200 HPDI's. Top speed is still 43 mph 10 years later. I cruise around 33mph at 4200 to 4400 RPM's and typically get 1.7 to 1.8 mpg at that speed. I can get about 1.9 mpg at 3600 rpm's and 28 mph. Personally I am happy with the setup but, would have gotten twin 250's if they were available in HPDI's in 2000.

Good luck with the Sailfish. If you liked the Gulfstream you will really enjoy the Sailfish.

My '06 with F250's has great power and pulls her right up onto plane. Usually hold her back as 45PMH is quite easy. Cruise 35mph at 3500rmp. 1.4- 1.6mpg. fully loaded with gas and bottom paint. I never felt I wished i had more power. Can't go wrong with F250's.

I have a 2000 sailfish with twin 225 EFI's (2 stroke). Plenty of power but one can never have enough. Moving from 225 to 250 may be a weight vs. increase in speed/fuel decision. 225's seem to be enough power for my needs.

Minimum 40mph. I'd like to cruise at minimum 30mph.

1998 272 with 225's. Great combination we cruise heavy to the Bahamas added gear and crew and it runs super. Homestead to Bluewaters 76 miles burn 46 gals.
250's would be overkill.
A friend has a 282 with 200 HPDI and gets better mileage than I do even running at +400 rpm from me.

a few years ago when i was boat shopping for a 282 myself i found there to be little difference between a twin F225 and F250. If you look at yamaha's performance reports you can see this for yourself. I don't see this as a deal breaker. I would prefer F250's but i am very happy with my F225's as they pop me up on plane quickly without the need to use tabs even if loaded and cruise 26-28 knots at 37-4000 rpm getting 1.8-2.0 mpg.
