OK, so those are easily removed. Will that give you access to the floor scuppers? Sometimes you have to get down and dirty and wiggle down into a compartment in just the right way... or work blind... and sometimes I'm even, literally, working on my head upside down. If you haven't yet, take the course Boat Maintenance 101 :)

It's the "Art of Boat Yoga"!!! Get with an instructor before you begin and stretch. Amazing some of the places I've been while working on boats.

This position should get you to those scuppers!!!

This is on my 270 islander very easy to do
That looks very straightforward, but I would recommend screw in plates on the swim platform, rather than pop in. The problem is if they pop out in rough seas, and you can’t see them, you could take on a lot of water.

Ah, "transom"... well, technically I guess it's still the hull, but close enough. Yes, that area would be fine. Mark your hole, cut, install plate, go fishing. I'm just guestimating since I'm not there to actually measure, but there looks like there is plenty of room for even an 8" plate. Stay away from edges and corners, though, by at least a few inches. Center it and you're golden.
Great idea. I was wondering how I would replace those and also genny exhaust. Thank you much.

The spot under the transom door would be a useless hole. I cut a deck plate hole into the spot you are showing in the last pic. Get it as low and forward as you can, just make sure the plate will sit flat. This hole will give you fairly easy access to the hoses and scupper fittings. Search under my name and u will see a post I started on this exact topic with more pics. I would not do it on the panel below the door. I like your first idea. I also like the idea of some type of storage. Water proof would be highly desired in that area but I'm not sure it is a deal breaker if some could get by it in a few spots. Look around at some shows and see what is on other boats. Would be super to have storage on both sides that if required could come out for access.

I like the idea of storage for things you may not need very often. There is about 4-5” of space between the walls so it would have to be a fairly shallow box.

This location will not work if you're thinking of changing out scuppers or deck drains. The scuppers are down just above the water line and this location will only give you about four inches of working room. The best location for an access plate is in the floor just aft of the transom door. I just changed all of my scuppers and deck drains and I had the luxury of the whole transom cap removed from the boat. I still got cut to pieces by shards of fiberglass. I would recommend as large a round access as possible if not a rectangle hatch itself. Good luck.

From the side is very doable and once finished it’s out of sight out of mind. Nothing to stub your toe on. If you get the new two piece deck drains from Grady, you can drill the old drains out with a hole saw from the top. There is plenty of room to get your arm in there and reach down to remove the two clamps on the scupper side and pull the hose off. It’s a one arm operation but not to hard.
I suggest starting with the port side to get a feel for how everything comes apart and goes together since there is a lot more room once the livewell is removed. The hardest part for me was getting all the old adhesive off the deck before I installed the new deck drains.

Islander
268 islander. Starboard side just aft of tuna door. 8” round. Sealed wood edges with epoxy and then added a thru-bolted on screw access plate. I open it up when the boats on the trailer. Keeps the bilges/ boat bone dry. I replace the o ring every May.

The deck drains are sold thru marine town. You can call or email them and they can get you what you need. They are also sold on eBay but cost a bit more. Search Grady cockpit floor drain. They look like this

Just a FYI. I was able to source the deck drains easier and quicker from my nearest Grady dealer. Marine Town gave me a Nov. delivery date and I was able to get them from my dealer in about four days from date of order.
