My SeaDek has been holding up great so far in the FlaDa sun (installed 12/1/2020).

Fish blood or bait does not make any stains as long as you clean up the mess and hit it with the salt water wash-down....which you would do anyway even it there was no deck covering.

The only issue is it's tendency to get cut and sliced up. You need to be careful about dropping knives or gaffs onto the deck, and even when landing flopping fish. I have a couple of "souvenirs" in my deck which were made from Grouper gill plates slicing the deck.

My biggest mistake was storing my crab trap on the deck during the summer off-season. Last year an Iguana got into my crab trap, got stuck and eventually died in there. He must have made quite a struggle trying to get out and his claws left their mark on the SeaDek.
Luckily, my Son came to go fishing on my boat during the summer and he was the one who had to dispose of the smelly mess, not me...

I imagine that dropping knives, gaffs and other heavy sharp items would likely damage the deck anyway. Nothing is indestructible.

I think they look at my boat, realize that I had to have bought it new, and just upped the price. If you can blow $130K on a boat, what's $7K of seadeck? Unfortunately for them, no deal. I like the look at $2500 but not at 3x that. They'll learn. Or not.

Yep. If I get 5-6 good years out of my SeaDek I consider it a very good investment....at $2500. And will probably put new SeaDek back in if it needs to be replaced. I would not pay $7k+ for it. That is absurd. That is pure up-charge. The material charge on my boat was $1200 total. $1200 for material, $1200 for install.

You might well be right - and it could also be like buying a new car in that each dealership has their own margins/sales goals. It's tough not working with the factory directly like that.

I want it to cushion the 12 oz jigs and 2 lb lead weights when we're Tilefishing.
When we're fishing hard we end up tracking bait smush on our shoes up to the helm and down into the cabin. I don't want foam decking where I can't hose it.

Boat launches in a month. We will have the anwser to how it works on a fishing boat by June.

the name came from first boat. Tin 16' Sylvan. There is argument over the origin. Some say it was from a crab that crawled up under the deck and died. Others claim it was from a particularly bad streak of fishing not catching. By the way, the Sylvan has carpet!

Based on what I paid, you’re 2500 number is the real number. Keep shopping around. Also consider I live on Long Island, and everything here costs a gagillion bucks.

Yeah, the guy who said they quoted $7K is from near San Francisco. In that case I would shop around and definitely look at Dekit and MarineMat as well.

sounds a little like the economy here... closer we get to NYC, the more expensive everything is. I'm about 45 miles from NYC and we feel it too.

I kicked it around and decided to try it on the cheap . $268 for 4 strips. Lots of leftover because of where I put seams. Started today after lunch mostly done by dinner. Needs some black silicone when I seal up the hatches. No it’s not a professional job. If I like it then someday maybe pay for professional CNC cuts. Makes me feel like I'm on a 38 sporty...

Here is a picture. I haven’t had time to take full set of pictures because I hadn’t finished silicone the rear hatch. Done yesterday. I’ll take pictures. Fished on it. Everyone loves how it looks and feels. We didn’t do a great job cleaning because we turned around and went out again. We were going to fish the next day too but we didn’t. So there is some dried blood We shall see

What black silicone did you use for the hatches? Where did you get the decking from?

two tubes of GE silicone from HD.
4 of these rolls. You could do it with 3 if you seam it differently. I used two on the main hatch seamed down the middle and one on each side. (10 "planks" from each roll)
Lots of leftover.

Again, I admit it is not anywhere near what a pro Seadek job would do. but <$300!!! Its better than a worn out non-skid deck and easier than painting.

I have seen and heard both sides. I only have a mat at the helm and have a hard time keeping it clean. I am kept in a hurricane proof barn with lots of forklift traffic spewing diesel exhaust soot so that leads to rinsing/washing boat BEFORE going out and COMING BACK......... I do prefer the nonskid as easy to keep clean, hmmmm.
One issue with foam is that if you get tears in it the repair is not pretty and of course removing it is almost impossible. Amother one to consider is the color as it can get hot if it is too dark in the southern sun.

Pricing seems totally out of whack but material prices may have gone back as a result of raw material price hikes.

Do what you feel is right for you as you are the owner/user of the boat. Like I tell interior decorators," you are not living here and it is not a show house"
so it is your choice.

I've had teak SeaDek in my boats for over 4 years. Never had a problem with it being too hot.

Skunk, what did you do for access to the hatch screws? I didn't see any holes in the foam to get to them. Just cut round holes and plugged them to cover?

lift up the edge and screw them and put the edge down.
