I'm considering purchasing a 1986 Seafarer and the owner claims the boat is a 226-G. Is anyone familiar with this model #? The boat looks like a 228 since there is no cut away transom and a 228 style motor bracket is used. The model from the HIN appears to be CR305 but I can't find a decoder for a 1986.

It's a 228 Seafarer with the Grady transom bracket on the back of it, as opposed to the 226 Seafarer which had the notched out transom. For a reference, here's a 1986 GW 226 Seafarer as well as a 1985 GW 228 Seafarer to compare. Also attached is the 1986 Grady White brochure which shows both boat models as well.

Thanks for the reply and the links. 228 it is. My intention is to purchase the boat so I'll likely have more questions to come.

I always recommend having a surveyor inspect the boat for you, but that's just my opinion and/or recommendation. I think a big question of mine would be why the owner of the boat thinks he has a 226 Seafarer when it's actually a 228 Seafarer?
