seav2 hull & towing

Hi I live in central oregon so we fish lakes ,the columbia river, tide water and want to be able to make tuna runs in the summer , with Canada and alaska also I like the 23 gulfstream but not sure if a 92 or newer is in my price range to get the seav2 hull how big of a difference is it if I went with 89,90 ect. and what about trailering do you need a permit with the 9,3 beam .also I am looking at the 22 seafarer that seems to be more affordable in the newer seav2 hull, would there be a big defference in the ride between the pre seav2 gulfstreams .as well as the 22 seafarer with the seav2 hull and fuel consumption . I will need a boat with trailer as well a shipping with my purchase ,they all seem to be on the east coast Thanks

Pop: In my opinion, there is a substantial difference in the SV2 ride, especially as the seas get choppy. On flat calm water you won't feel much difference.

And there is a significant difference in the ride of the 22 vs. 23. The 23 is a much bigger boat. Just compare the weights. But the 23, in my opinion is best suited for twin engine set ups whereas the 22 is limited to a single engine.

As for trailering, yes, a beam in excess of 8'6" does need a special permit. Others can chime in on that process.

Agree with Wahoo, the SV2 definitely improved rough water handling.
The larger beam, (23 and up) offers more stability, more cockpit room, etc., but certainly not ideal for trailering, (permits, insurance issues).

Have you considered an Islander? A lot of boat, with an 8' 6" beam.

The Gilfstream is 9 1/2 feet wide, is that a problem where you are?

8'6" is good in all States. I tow from New Jersey to Florida in the winter. I bought a Islander (8'6" beam) so I wouldn't need the towing permits.

For example, Pennsylvania considers anything over 8'6" a wide load. Permits are needed. Transport hours and days are restricted.

You need to check with the states you expect to be towing in. In Washington State anything over 8'6" is a wide load.

In most states over 8'6" is oversize, but some look the other way for reasonable loads. Florida seems to really look the other way.

It seems like the bigger the boat the less impact SV2 has. Are West coast seas mostly swells? In swells, either hull model will be OK but when it gets choppy the SV2 will ride better. The Seafarer gives up a little in lenght but a lot in total mass. Take a few rides and see what you like.
