First time boat owner and hoping i can get some guidance. Just got a 223 Tournament, located in the long island sound. I was advised to replace my anchor kit and get a new one. Danforth style anchor. what length rope should i get...?

Should pack 6 ft of rope for every 1ft of depth that you plan to anchor in. 1/2 in rope is sufficient. The chain is the key. The longer the chain, the less rope and less weight you need for your anchor. A whimpy anchor with a heavy chain will hold better than a heavy anchor with a whimpy chain hands down. I have 15 ft chain and 300 ft 1/2 in rope lewmar anchor rode for my 24 offshore. Holds great in 150 ft of water Have to let it all out in a rough sea. I have a 16 lb lewmar plow that fits in my pulpit perfectly.

Longer the chain the better is right on the money - I put 25' on mine. Everyone has his own preference, but I sure like these claw anchors below better than the Danforth. They pick up less crap, and are less likely to foul up, IMHO. But again, everybody has...

Where I live the tide will swing a boat back and forth, and a bunch of eel grass and other crap wraps around the line in the process. I chased a 14 ft. aluminum about 6 miles one time - learned that lesson the hard way. If it pulls out, the claw seems to grab again right away and there's nothing "folding" about it to hang up...
Down side is that I don't think those sit well in the anchor locker area up front - if OP has one on his boat.
