Hello everyone, I have a 1990 Grady White Overnighter 20. The steering is getting a little tough on it and was looking to see if anyone knew the exact length of a cable I would need. I have a 175 Yamaha 2 stroke on the back of it.

You might find the length stamped on the cable either at the motor or possibly at the steering box. You can estimate by measuring the length of the cable from the steering box to where is disappears in the rigging tube, to that add the distance from there to the other end of the rigging tube and then add the distance for where is exits the rigging tube to the end of the motor steering tube ( where the nut is.
That said, on some of the smaller model hulls, it is difficult to replace the able without unbolting the engine and moving the motor towards port side.

Before you buy a cable, disconnect the link arm from the motor and determine if the motor is binding or the cable is binding...or both.

When motors get old the dried grease in the swivel (vertical) bracket can block new grease and cause binding.

Also, dry grease in the pivot tube (horizontal) can bind the cable motion.
