Hello fellow GW owners -

I'm hoping the army here might be able to assist with finding a part that has been on back order since June. I have a 2016 GW 335 Freedom with Yamaha F350s. The steering sensors are bad and need to be replaced. When they fail the boat is basically useless as it throws a code, goes into guardian mode and won't turn. Might as well have a single engine boat 50 miles offshore when this happens.

I am looking for Yamaha part: 6ES836880000 (need 2 of them). I've called and looked everywhere and same message - national back order with no ETA from Japan. I'd even buy used ones from a salvage situation at this point from boats that were damaged in the storms. I appreciate any assistance out there. Many thanks!

Have you tried a wanted post on the The Hull Truth classifieds? Be aware of scammers.
Back in the day Yamaha outboards we're engineered with redundancy or ways to bypass failed parts to limp a boat home. Apparently that isn't a priority anymore. Must be too expensive - yes, that last part is sarcasm.

Geez.. Are those things really $680 each????

In any case, Boats.net when checked for availability says they can ship in 2 to 3 days. I would call them to be sure.
You might also try Partsvu if you haven't already

Did both go bad at the same time? That would lead me to suspect something else maybe

If you can find them stock up! I have 2019 271 Canyon.
I have had at least one failure of this part every year since the boat's first anniversary.
Nice to see Yamaha is selling separately now. Previously, you could only buy the sensor as part of the whole steering cylinder. That part is over $1700.
Horrible quality.
I also suggest calling Jaret at Yamaha 866-894-1626.
They have been supplying them under their Goodwill policy at no charge.......

Good Luck
