Hi Yall:
I am going to add some lighting to my boat's interior. I do some night fishing every now and then as well as hanging out at the dock-slip when take the boat on trips to the Keys, lakes and rivers for several days.

I am wondering for those of you who have upgraded your standard Grady white lights to something LED, what colors did you use? I personally like blue, but blue can disrupt your night vision when on the water so I lean to red for that purpose. Those with blue, do you just use it at the slip or do use them anchored up at night to fish or what have you?

So I am interested in what colors do you use and how does it effect your eyes while fishing if you do that at night?

Thanks

I used the blue led strips and used contact cement to bond them to the underside of the gunnel. I ran them up to the small circular lights on the steps of the walkaround on my Marlin and tied them in. It was easier than running the wires to the dash. I find the blue lights fine for night use when running of fishing.

Thanks Fishtales. I planned on doing the same thing by connecting the leds to the already wired cockpit lights. Good to hear the blue is fine.

I ran red strips under the gunnels and attached them to the cockpit light wiring as well... I looked all over for a red bulb for the cockpit lights but was unsuccessful, so I removed the bulbs for now... Being red, no problem at all seeing at night... I'll use them early in the morning on the run to the fishing grounds and they allow the folks in the back to rig or see their surrounding without interfering with my vision... they give a nice glow sitting at the dock too...
I just installed LED underwater lights in blue... Yes, the boat is patriotic, but I'm looking into adding blue ones to the gunnels for hanging at the dock... although they make a multicolor strip with a remote for a little more, which would be a great option...
http://www.coastalnightlights.com/ - single color strips and excellent spreader light replacements and a good price on underwater LEDs

Thanks a bunch Guys!!! The Admiral likes blue and thus blue is likely what we install. I am considering perhaps running blue from the cockpit lights and then maybe tapping the aux switch and adding just a short set of gunwale reds. I dont know, but blue is in the lead.

I also bought blue for the Formula, but did not install them yet. I also bought couple of strips of the "change color" ones with a controller, that would look great, i hope.

I used blue rope LED lights under gunnel both sides, and tied them into the walkaround OEM step lights which I found useless to begin with since shining in my face, so shut those off. I used nylon cable clamps from the depot, I think 1/2 inch as supports with ss screw, mounted up high on sides.

They light up across entire cockpit.

Looking for something to replace the Perko OEM monster under hardtop box, in LED, checked out a few not sure on pattern, but the ones that toggle the two colors red and blue plus white I've seen, just not sure of pattern and brightness.
Have to walk around the marina after dark and "research".

And l don't like the bluest white but offwhite or solfwhite as sometehomes it's called in LEDs. Offwhite is like incandescent bulbs, I like
Need a second one for inside cabin.

So much research to spend money, or is it analysis paralysis?

I just installed new lumitec spreaders for cockpit and one on the bow. Went with the dual color. Can be all white or all blue. Do a lot of night fishing thought the blue sometimes just easier on the eyes. Love the lights so far

I did the exact same thing. Been very pleased with them.
