Hi all,
I have a sailfish 282 and have just finished my first full season. She's on blocks now for the winter and after removing all of my gear, I'm thinking about how I can be better organized.

Do any of you have a good tackle bag to recommend? I like to tie leaders, etc. at home and its a pain to have terminal tackle and tools on the boat when I need them. I also prefer to organize my gear at home, not to mention i don't care to leave it all on the boat.

I'm looking a the front access bags with the utility boxes. Any recommendations?

I have several types, none really do what I want.

The traditional box style works well for what it is. The latches are good, but they are generally small and appear made more for freshwater. A lot of small sections that don't handle terminal tackle, leaders, hooks that are pre-tied etc. Some accept the clear plastic utility boxes that I like to use. I don't like the hard plastic shell.

The zip bags work great when new. I have something like this:

I like the latter style better. Less pockets and just simpler. I find the zippers are tough to keep in good working order and some even freeze up, albeit I manage to get them to work (never as well as new though). On one I have, the plastic insert that keeps the lid solid literally disentegrated, so there are bits of plastic in between the fabric now. These generally accept the plastic utility boxes though. This style is basic - the more I see it the more I like it.

My boat (Marlin) has storage for 4 large utility boxes below the washdown station. I've been searching for a soft bag that holds this size as well. This way I can rotate boxes and take some home to go through and keep clean and properly stocked. Have not found one yet. There are some pretty expensive ones out there that look nice. Something like this....

I've heard of people using soft backpacks that hold the utility boxes like this:

I've heard of plastic tool boxes from Home Depot, rolling tool boxes, rubbermaid boxes and even small cary on style luggage.

I'm looking a lot of features: Hold the larger utility boxes, if big it should roll, needs to handle larger as well as small, sinkers, terminal tackle, tied hooks, prefer soft shell, with the right amount of pockets and zippers (like pornography - I'll know it when I see it). Probably won't find it out there. If you do, let me know....

I make my own rigs for all the fishing I do whether offshore trolling for wahoo, tuna, and mahia or if I am bottom fishing for snapper and grouper. So I have different bags for the different fishing. Offshore rigs I use the large fold up mesh bags. For bottom fishing rigs I use a bag that has separate plastic bags attached together at the bottom to put the rigs in so nothing gets tangled. I also have a separate bag for light rigs that I use for Kings and mahia, also with the plastic inserts attached at the bottom. All those bags I got at my local Half Hitch tackle shop. I find it cuts into my fishing if I have to make rigs when trying to fish, so I always have plenty of rigs already made in the bags.

Thanks guys. My Sailfish has 2 tackle drawers and a larger compartment behind the companion seat. What tends to happen is the larger compartment gets jammed with stuff, especially when the bite is on and gets to be a mess. the tackle drawers hold smaller boxes and are not a good solution.

this one looks like a possibility, any thoughts?
