im trying to figure out how to get a picture of my boat to show up below my posts. i am failing, haha

i did successfully upload an image to "my media". then i used the gallery embedded icon to in theory insert it, but no luck

You have to go to your profile and insert it into your "signature" for it to be down there.

Hmm, I'm not sure why that is not working for you. Probably need to ask an admin.

i might try tomorrow, maybe images need to be reviewed by an admin before they are "useable"

Needs to be a small jpg. iPhones use .heic files

Agreed. I'm assuming the file is too large to use the picture for your signature. If you have an iPhone or other smart phone, there are a multitude of apps out there to decrease the file size of your picture so that you can use it.
