Hello this is my first post. I have two questions I would like opinions on. #1 what are your thoughts about buying a 1994 or any older sv2 hull to eventually re-power ? I'm looking at one with running yamaha 150 2 stroke of the same year running and in working order. #2 I have a 180 sportsman 2001 with yamaha 115 fourstroke. The owner of the 1994 adventure asked about a trade, his1994 adventure for my 2001 180 sportsman. His is older and I haven't been to see it yet so I can't say exact condition but it's bigger. So my question is how would you approach this scenario? I had planned on selling my boat for four thousand more than the asking price for the 94, well my starting asking price anyway. So let me know what you think. Both boats are in New England so I guess prices seem to be more up here for both these boats. Thanks for any input.

Welcome to the forum.

Your newer 180 with four stroke power is worth more than his 208....a trade may work if he is throwing some cash in the deal. Otherwise, sell yours outright.

I've owned both a 180 and a 208.....different animals altogether but great boats just the same...just be sure you want a walk around for what you use the boat for.

Thanks for the reply! I originally had the thought of buying the 208 if it checks out ok, engine compression and no transom issues or soft spots in stringers. I figure if I buy the 208 and then sold my 180 then take the cash and look at new power or slightly used power to make a nice little walk around package. I love the 180 and would keep it all day if it were more family friendly for my current situation. I have 2 girls and my wife and no bathroom or priavte area for them to change or just get out of the sun. I have looked into newer 208 packages in the 2000 year and newer but I feel its a lot for 12 year old boat and engine with 3 to 4 hundred hours. every thing I have seen online is in the 20k to 30k range, I have seen a few 97-98 208's going for 15k and up. So I either take out a loan for a newer package still with some years on it for 20k and there is always the possibility of there being engine issues or it being fine as my current engine is. It's a roll of the dice. Or I get the older 90's hull and power and use it until it needs to be repowered, paying cash for the whole thing and using the sale of my 180 cash to buy the new power with some saved cash to eliminate a loan all together. sorry for the long post!

I agree with Parthery 100 percent. A straight up trade is in the other guys favor. Your boat is seven seasons newer. The Adventure is a great boat though. A 1994 is 21 years old check her out thoroughly. If she checks out you will be pleased.

If they have been stored out of the water and in good shape, a 2000+ with only 300-400hrs at have the price of new can be a pretty good deal. These are quality boats and motors that hold their value. Should get at least 10 to 15 more good years out of it.

Still a lot of snow up here in Massachusetts so it will be a few weeks until I can get on anything. I'm itching to get the wrap off my 180 and get it ready for the season! In the mean time I'll torture myself on the internet window shopping for my next boat.
