trailer for gulfstream

Hello,

hopefully finalizing my first purchase of a 1995 gulfstream. If all goes well I will need to purchase a trailer to pick it up and I will be trailering the boat. Anybody have a advice on a trailer, brand, size, gvw, pretty sure I wanted bunk but not positive.
boat has a single 250 on bracket. Also any thoughts on a winch not sure of all of the ramps I will be using and think it would be almost impossible to crank that rig up if you got in a shallow ramp.

I have search different trailer that can be fit in Gulf Stream and I have found out this trailer - the Streamlite travel trailer. I would look for a 9800 GVW aluminum tandem trailer. This will give you a carrying capacity somewhere in the neighborhood of 8000 lbs.

Generally speaking, you probably want SS hardware, radial tires, Kodiak disc brakes, LED Lighting, Front Center bunks, and a spare tire with spare hub.

If you are in the Southeast, some of the more popular manufacturers include Float On, Loadmaster, Owens and Sons, Hi-Tech, Ace, TNT, Wesco, etc... in the mid-atlantic and NE, Venture sells a lot of trailers. In Texas, its McLain. You can get a Magic Tilt or EZLoader just about anywhere in the US.

If you have shallow ramps to contend with that won't allow you to power-load, go with rollers.

Look at a Fastload trailer they are out of Fl. I bought one for my Gulfstream, aluminum, stainless bolts, Disc brakes, bunks. It was like $4650. They delivered it to Il. for $300. Up grade the tires tho if you are towing alot. Joe.

Looks like a venture and loadrite are the most economical. Heard a few bad stories for loadrite
Looks like alluminum Venture for me with the features that were recomended

Load Rite makes a VERY nice trailer...and you pay for it. I've had a few and they all held up extremely well. They also make a budget line called 5-Starr and they seem to be nice too.

Venture isn't known for being a quality trailer. I would definitely take a Load Rite or 5-Starr over a Venture.

Last minute change went with the 5 starr made by loadrite. Dealer was willing to deliver to marina where I was picking up boat in NJ. Almost identical price as Venture with same features.
Dealer said the 6000 lb capacity would do it. price under $3000 for aluminum with bunks and spare tire.

Hi GradyVT.
I have made the mistake twice of taking my dealers word on trailers for my boats.

I will never do that again..

In each instance, they spec'd me a trailer that was undersized and I paid for it with bent axles, prematurely failed bearings on a regular basis and brackets breaking on one occasion.
A pertinent question here is how much do you plan to trailer your Gulf. If it's back-and-forth to the ramp twice a year, an undersized trailer may cut it. If you have visions of going to different destinations, don't listen to your dealer.
The dealers specify an undersized or barely adequate trailer as a package to make the overall price of the boat/trailer combo attractive. He isn't going to help with repairs when things start breaking on it later on.
I read in your above post your dealer said a 6000 cap. will do it.
Mine has twin 7000 lbs axles, an oversize frame two spares with bearings and hubs and I have a Gulfstream too..
The 232 Gulfstream is a huge 23 foot boat. It has a 9' 3" beam and sports significant weight. Mine tips the Cat Scales at the Flying J truck stop at 10,100 lbs. (Admittedly, I travel with full fuel, lots of ice, gear, etc.)
I would laugh at someone who told me a 6000 cap. trailer would do the job.

Please consider other options..Your boat is a huge investment..I learned my trailer woes the hard way..

From the 1995 catalog:

Hull weight: 4025
Yam 250: 475
148 gal fuel: 962
Hard Top: 500 (not included in dry weight of hull as its an option)

You are at 5962 before the first piece of rigging, batteries, etc...goes in the boat. If you have the auxiliary tank, that can mean another 225 lbs in fuel, + the tank. Unless you aren't towing with any ice, gear, supplies, etc... you can easily add another 300-400 lbs.

The 6000 lb trailer is not big enough...if its not too late..you need to talk to the dealer about moving up one size.

Are You buying on price alone or do you want quality?? Many dealers are looking for a sale and don't care how they get it or what happens after the sale. I had a dealer very near Balt that we all know try and sell me First -- I have a '97 with twins, 6500 lbs. It' sits on a 7k dual axle trailer that probably should have been at least 8k capacity. Once you get fuel, ice, gear and misc equipment loaded, your boat can EASILY gain 1000 Lbs. As an ideal setup, the weight should be at or less than 80% of capacity of the trailer. I hope your choice works out, but I suspect that you will have problems with tire wear and handling from the beginning.
The big Picture -- If Your choice is wrong, it could mean you or other people getting injured or killed.
I 'm not trying to be a hard A$$, but I've seen far to many situations where the trailer was improper for the load and caused an accident---- Good Luck!
