Talking of additional tie downs, by Angler Management, I had a bolt shear off on my hand winch on a steep ramp. The safety chain pulled through the welded ring like butter. The boat rocked back, and I was almost a Face Book post. We secured as best we could with chain and straps. We drove 5 blocks to a shop and got the winch fixed.

I now use a grade 8 chain from the bow eye to the cross members on my trailer.View attachment 25093View attachment 25094


I remember when you had that happen and posted a warning. I went to a heavier chain and got it off that link. Thanks for the heads up.

I'd love to know what penny pinching miser thought it was a good idea to weld on a chain link like that, because it couldn't have been an engineer. At best that link is good for a 2k lbs working load.
