Transducer cable with engine cables through tunnel

Is routing the transducer cable for a transom mounted transducer through the rigging tunnel, where the engine and battery cables run, a good idea?

Are you referring to the rigging tube that connects houses all the wiring, control cables and fuel line for the engine?

If so, I have never heard of running a transducer cable through there.

Nor would I ever consider doing so.

I wouldn't either. You'd have to take all the cables out to get it through, then snake the others back through again. Not worth the effort. Besides, where would you have the transducer cable enter the rigging tube? You'd have to get it into the engine first. REALLY not worth the effort.

If you are talking about the PVC tubes throughout the boat, that's what they are there for. I would pick one that is fairly clear and does not contain a lot of electrical cables.

I was referring to the one rigging tunnel, molded in the hull which contains the following:

• 
  Throttle, shifter cable
  2 hydraulic lines for steering
  Positive/Negative battery power to engine
  Engine gauge harness

There is lots of room in the tunnel for the transducer cable as well. This tunnel connects the center console to the Stern compartment where the cables are diverted to the outboard.

If you are referring to the PVC tube under the floor, that's what it's there for.

Most GWs have at least 2 tubes running between the helm and the bilge. Use a plumbers snake and secure a piece of string or weed eater twine to leave in the tube. That way the next time you have to pull something, you already have a "chase" in there.

There might be one or two more available. Get your head in the bilge and look around (or if you have a newer boat, the manual would have the rigging tube layout in the appendices). If not, I would use the existing one, but prefer a less utilized one. Good luck, Ron

I am ordering the Garmin 50s and Airmar P66 today. Since I have the floor out and the rigging tunnel exposed it will be easier to run the transducer cable with little effort.
