garyvoss - I know this thread is old I missed it last year. But wanted to share the pics of my Marlin transom. Ran into the same issue with the aluminum cap letting water in. The rest of the boat is solid and I wanted to re-power - so had it done last summer right about the same time you posted this. Here are some pics:

Those pictures are pretty gnarly, glad to hear you got it all fixed up. That's one of the many things that I like about the 228 Seafarer in that it doesn't have the aluminum bang cap on it and is fully enclosed, so hopefully you don't have to deal with something like this.
