transom knee pad

I pulled the fold down seat and short piece of coming from the transom of my 280 Marlin. It currently looks like someone had target practice with their 22 using the transom as a backstop. Looking to put a padded knee rail across the entire cockpit side of the transom. Thinking of using a piece of PVC board from HD fitting it with studs and then having it covered at a local shop. Anyone use PVC boards on their boat. Additionally and ideas on how to get the wing nuts off the coming on the gunwales port and starboard. They are in worse shape than the transom ones.

Wing nuts - are they corroded? Could try white vinegar or kroll penetrating oil. Maybe a rubber hammer to tap the corrosion loose.

redid mine recently. pretty easy. GW uses a plastic backing material. Could prob get away with 1/4 or 3/8" starboard or plastic material.
