Just sold my 1988 22' seafarer and I installed a Lowrance GPS/Depthfinder for the new owner. Bay tested the boat this morning and the transducer is shooting up water onto the engine cowling. The new owner didn't really mind, but I told him I would take care of it and didn't want to sell him the boat like that.

I know the best thing to do is to run an Airmar throughull transducer instead, but I'd like to see if I can get this to work. I mounted it about 8-10" to the right of the "grady drive" bracket right near the chine on the transom. Hangs down 1/16"-1/8" below the hull like its supposed to and paralell to the water line and it works perfect. I've done dozens of these, but none that I can recall on a transom with an engine bracket.

I tried angling the transducer further down, but it really didn't change the spray much when running the boat. Where is the best location for this? I have plenty of extra cable to maybe move the transducer lower and closer to the bracket.

Thanks

Jason

I'm wondering if it's a combination of the water coming off the chine AND the ducer - the two water flows somehow mixing together with each other. Do you have it on the horizontal surface of the chine or the outboard side of the vertical section? I know they can be put on a chine, but I tend (not always) to put them a bit away from the chine and I don't recall ever seeing one splash up like you're describing. Although, I can't say I ever remember seeing one mounted on the horizontal surface of the chine splash up like that, either. There must just be some funky water flow happening in that exact spot you have it.

Is it a "normal" looking ducer?

I'd have to go take a look the boats in the water, but I'm pretty sure I mounted it so its hanging down right by the horizontal part of the chine. It's pretty much installed where the trim tab would be installed if the boat had them. Only thing I can think of is to mount it lower/more inward towards the bracket. I will try and get a picture up later.

From what you've said, it does sound like you have room to mount it further inboard. Obviously not too close to the centerline/keel (which I'm sure you already know - just mentioning it for others that are reading that may not).

I think Im going to try and split the distance between where it currently is and the bracket, and mount it further down. Really my only option I guess.

Don't beat yourself up - those are great pictures...... of the transducer CABLE!

It may not take much movement - you'll know more when you pull the boat and get a better view. You might only need to move the ducer a few inches.

Haha, yea that first picture is pretty usless. I was just trying to show it was mounted straight down from the wire lol.

Yea I'm going to haul it out this weekend if I get a change and move it over. Hate to keep drilling holes in the boat.

I mounted mine a few inches from the drain plug which would in this case for you, put the tducer directly under the bracket so you would not get any spray on the engine.
