97 208 Adventure with a notched transom. Is the transom sealed under the aluminum "L" channel on the notch?

I don't think so. On my 208 the aluminum is caulked on it's edges. From reading other posts, the area under the aluminum strip is a common entry point for water.

Thanks. My caulking is starting to look dry so I was curious if I should pull it up and re-caulk or if it was just for appearance.

I can't take mine off without removing the motor so I just check the caulk on the edges.

That's the best place for water to get into the transom and rot it. If my boat had that setup I wouldn't feel good until I had completely inspected and refurbished that area. The factory seal is not exactly a lifetime job. This is a small job that can save a transom replacement later, Good luck with it.

I agree in general but it is not a simple job. As mentioned I have to pull the motor to get to the trim. Having a friend with a moisture meter is a big help:) So I just keep an eye on it and should the upper transom show moisture or the time comes for a new steering cable, I will pull the motor and reseal the edge.
