A friend of mine is currently looking at an '87 Gulfstream with a single 225 mounted on a twin engine bracket. The engine has low compression so he is considering installing a pair of early 90s 130 Yamahas (that he already owns) if he picks up the boat. However, he is concerned that the twin 130s might not provide adequate power. I told him I think they would be fine as many of those boats came with twin 140s.

So, do any of you have experience with such a configuration? If so, what speed and fuel burn numbers might he expect?

Thanks.

Mine has twin 200's..I could speculate, as you could..
Let's say..
Mid-to-hi-20's cruise at 4000.
Fuel burn..2.0-2.5MPG at that speed.
Just shootin' in the dark, but I'll bet I'm not too far off..
Hope your Sailfish sells for you...

I had Johnson 140's on mine. It was lucky to do 30 MPH and got less than a mile to the gallon. I am pretty sure you can bet the same for them Yami 130's.
