I got my panel cut out and the NSS12 sitting in it ready to be installed on the boat. Removed all the wires left over from the Carbon's and got the WM-3 weather module powering up with the unit. I had it on a switch with the Carbon's because I was using a hub to network the units. I have the HS60 waiting to be installed inplace of the Point-1 GPS antenna so I can use all the functionality of the Halo 24 when I purchase it. I'm still a month away to get my boat back since the fiasco of the boat buff. It's slowly coming together.

That’s going to be nice upgrade. I ended up making one for 2 - axiom 9” side by side. Put a 40 degree bevel on the bottom of panel so I sat nice and tight against helm.

Looks great, simple and clean.

I wish my 1997 seafarer had that larger electronics box....

Things will be a bit more challenging in the older models, ill post up pics when i try and mount up my 1243 next week.

Here’s my winter project on my 1999 Seafarer, nicer to have access to the HDS12 outside the flip up door on the electronics box

Your pics were the inspiration behind my panel. I liked the simple panel look with the 12 mounted in it. With the unit mounted here and out of the box, it allows me to move my NMEA backbone up inside the box and cleans up some of the wiring under the helm. I was second guessing myself before I got the panel cut and the 12 in it, as to whether I should have bought the 16 instead. Happy with the 12, fits perfectly in the panel.

Looks good!!!

I think we should create a “sticky” thread for all of the dash mods we have done on the 228s for the electronics. Just post pics with explanations to save the effort and research for others in the future.

Great Idea!!
I suggest all models
I have a 1998 232 and would like to see all their mods.

Oops, thanks for the reminder, I forgot I posted that mod here, my COVID memory issues. I did want to try another version with 1/4 inch Seafoam Starboard but our local supplier couldn’t bring it in so will live with the black panel for now.

I'm mid way through the same project on a 226. Instead of mounting over the cutout, I tried fitting a piece of Acrylic dash inside the shape. Worked well, now just need to fill the old screw holes, which I've found Spectrum makes a gel coat repair kit in Grady color. So hopefully that and a little buffing and they'll be mostly gone.

This thread inspired me to do a test mock up using an 18x24 cutting board on a 208 (I think it’s similar in dimension). Will try it like this for a while before using the cutting board as a template for Starboard or something more permanent.

I had thought about the full panel, but went half panel for now. I like the contrast of the dash between the two panels. When I repower and have to replace the gauges, I'll probably make a upper panel to match the lower. Upper is currently the old carbon fiber pattern, will go the matte black to match the lower panel. I have plenty of material left over for it.

Finally got my boat home from a long ordeal over the winter.

Got my HS60 installed and got my Simrad NSS12 flush mounted. Very pleased with the outcome of both.

Hey Ky, install looks great and now I’m wondering if I should’ve got the 12 instead of of the 9...

Not to nitpick but it looks like your sonar wasn’t paused in that picture. Hopefully it was only for a little bit; don’t want you to fry your transducer.

I’m jealous of the 12” screen looks sweet. I debated hard on which way to go.

It was only powered up a very short time, basically for the pic and to see that everything was working.

Draggin', nothing wrong with your setup. I had the 2 Carbon 7's in the box that I got frustrated with, so an unsupervised visit to West Marine resulted in the Simrad 12. The 12 did fit in the box, but after seeing everyone's flushmount projects, I had to do mine.
