kaiyasdad: I'm a bit biased, but, nice boat! The hull you're looking at is the same as my boat, except my 2005 running bottom extends all the way to the transom and your 2002 has a 'notched transom'. Yours also would have the rear seat built into the transom whereas mine has a fold down seat. Rides will be similar.

I'm thrilled with the ride and quality of my boat. Handles a 2' chop with ease, stays on a slow plane in 3' and, like today, I just barely come off plane running into a 15 knot wind, 2'-4' sea. Anything more than that and I'm just plowing through.

I do a bit of kite fishing for winter-time sailfish and the boat drifts well and is very stable for her size.

Fish boxes are very well insulated and hold ice well.

Cabin is okay for two for a few nights, if you're hardy. We run to the Bahamas for long weekends and do okay.

My biggest complaint is that the walk-around space is a bit more narrow than I would prefer. It's fine on calm days, but chasing a fish around the boat on a bumpy day can be a challenge. If your boat has a hard top, that will not be the concern it is on my boat with a vista top.

Yamaha did a test of that hull (center console version) with twin 115s. I'll try to post the link below:

http://www.yamaha-motor.com/assets/prod ... -GRW-Z.pdf

Not sure the link works, so I'll post the performance numbers:

RPM MPH GPH MPG Db
1000 4.9 0.9 5.44 63
2000 7.7 3.2 2.41 74
3000 9.7 6.9 1.41 80
4000 26.9 8.3 3.24 86
5000 35.0 12.1 2.90 89
6000 44.6 21.9 2.04 91

Theses numbers look pretty close to what I get with an F250, but the 115s show a little better fuel economy and another 2 mph on top end. Test boat only carried 50 gallons of fuel, so our numbers probably are pretty close.

Feel free to email me if you have any specific questions. If you do, let me know how you intend to use the boat and I'll offer my thoughts.

Good luck.

Rob

p.s. I just noticed that the Yamaha test was of 115 two-strokes, not four-strokes. I would expect the four-stroke boat to be a bit slower getting out of the hole.

this was a typo, right? you mean a pair of 150's, not a pair of 115's. alan

according to the ad on yacht world and the sales person it does have twin 115 hp. is this way under powered? how do you like your boat. we had a 23 ft parker and currently a blackman billfisher w/twin diesels which cruises at 15-17knts. i am looking for something with more speed. thanks.

personally, i think it's way underpowered. i just checked http://www.gradywhite.com/258/ and it's rated for 350 hp.

i had engine trouble last year and had to come back on a single engine. luckily it was down hill all the way. the single 150 worked great getting me home. northern california waters can be a little rough. i would not have wanted to come back on a single 115. i think 250 would be fine for single screw, but for twins, i like the 150's. alan

I would agree that twin F150s is greatly preferred over twin F115s.

What kind of boating do you do and in what kind of conditions?

we typically launch out of half moon bay, santa cruz or monterey. rarely we will launch out of oyster point, buzz by san francisco and head out under the golden gate bridge. seas run 2 to 8 feet every 6 to 12 seconds. winds typically run 10-20 kts from the NW with a 1-4 foot chop. oh, and the water temp is a steady 55 degrees.

no t-shirt weather for us! alan

thanks for the replies so far. we keep the boat down in mission bay in san diego. we fish the offshore banks 20-80 out, coronados islands, etc. when we had a parker we would fish twice a week, but now with the blackman being very slow it makes it tough to go out even once a week as we leave the dock at 1am-3am.
