Water in fuel tanks

Hello everyone
I have a 228 with two fuel tanks

When I do not use one of them for a couple of months then when I connect it, the decanter always fills me with water

I take out about half a liter more or less (half a mile at 4200rpm I stop and empty the decanter about four times) and when I see that no water comes out I can walk calmly.

I think it is condensation but what do you think?

The perco filler caps have an integrated vent and I do not understand how it breathes if the cap does not have a hole and they close until the top

I am thinking of loosening the breathing hoses and leaving them secured with flanges so that the deposits breathe better

It's probably a leaky fill or there is and has been water in that tank.. Remove the gas cap and look at the underside of it. Towards the top where the can meets with the 'threaded tube' there should be an o-ring. If you see a groove and no o-ring, that is your problem. The o-ring if there could be worn out too.What I don't understand is why you don't switch tanks more often if you think the problem is causes by condensation

Also release the hoses from the filler mouths and then spray water on top and no drop came out from underneath, that is, it does not enter the caps

Don't try and reinvent the filler cap. It works as designed - on thousands and thousands and thousands of boats. Double check for that (good condition) o-ring as mentioned above.

Condensation... where are you located? Best thing you can do to counter condensation is to keep the tanks full. Use a good quality additive/fuel stabilizer such as Startron (others are good, as well).

Also, pull the hatch off and inspect the tank real well. It's possible you have pinholes on the top of the tank letting water in.

It is easy to miss the O-ring. It is on the cap itself and is black rubber. The caps are designed to breathe and seldom is that the problem.
