Hello: How many on here have experienced this issue, with a Yamaha setup. I have a 1992 Grady White 244 Explorer Closed Transem, I use Yamaha lube 2 stroke oil that is new and sealed not bulk! and ring free and Yamaha fuel stabilizer. Now i have owned at lest 5 other Yamaha setups and never had the problem with water in oil. Now why am i posting this is because in 2013, i had the original 225 Eng lean out on me because oil pump went therefore the pistons took a beating. So i needed to find someone who Remanfuctured Eng, I did I'm not going to name the Company, but anyway I took the boat there and they said the eng was toast do to oil pump nothing, about water in the oil on the work order. So traded it in and had them build me a 2003 300 hp 2 stroke they had at $9,000. also they recommened that i have the the oil tank removed and cleaned and replace the oil pump plus change the fuel lines form the tank back to the eng and clean the battery cables at the cost of $1,250 . So i get the boat back and following the break in period and 3 weeks later its back at the shop do to a bad head gasket or cracked blocked, they made good on that. Boat ran good throw the summer weekends with no issues, Now in Nov of 2015 I used the boat the week before with no problems. Its time to go for strippers , and that's what i wait for all year. So we get to the Boat early stat it up , head to the gas dock and head up the creek to the bay, so i go to get the boat up on plain and something didn't seem right so i back down , and re try again , this time it sounded like i throw a rod bearing . So made a call to the shop and back down it went. Never heard nothing from them in about the Eng and cause in 4 months so i made the call to them , they claim that Eng failure was do to water in oil and scored one cylinder. I find this hard to believe, that the eng let loose that morning like that with out any Pervious warning . this eng has a 3 year parts and labor warranty from Nov 2013 to Nov 2016. Now once again i'm told it's water related and there not going to warranty a water related issue. I believe i was sold a lemon from the get go. They should a least split the cost for the repairs. Remember they pulled the oil tank cleaned and replaced the oil pump, not me! So now im out $10,250 . Is this worth going to small claims court for. Thx for any input on this matter.

O-rings on your fill caps for the oil tanks? I'd check the condition of those, as well as the condition of the o-ring on your fuel fill caps and water tank caps. The former owner of my boat had a water in fuel issue . . . sure enough boat had no o-rings on fuel fill caps. I'd hate for it to be that simple in the situation where you've had so much work done already.

Unless they can prove water in the oil, I would proceed with legal action. You probably have a good case. I don't know what the small claims limit in PA is but it may be less than what you spent.

They did find water in the oil so they say, i was not there when they did. So i got to take there word for it. But what gets me is that, i had a issue with this Eng when i first got it off them. And they pulled the oil tank to clean and replace the oil pump, which is held in place buy a rubber grommet. If i had know from the get go that there was a water related problem, this would have never happen & which i was not told about. it just seems like something isn't right here . :sorry for all the venting.

A lot depends on whether you have a written guaranty and if so, what is says. I would expect damage to multiple cylinders if there weren't sufficient oil not just one. Unfortunately, in court, they will state that they found water in the oil and you don't have a lot of opposing evidence to that position. I would look into whether water in the oil tank will lead to scoring of one cylinder using your own expert witness if you want to go that route. Of course that may cost more than it is worth. Presenting the history of the repairs needed after the rebuild may help in establishing the basis for a defective service/product from the start. Having a log of routine maintenance that shows you followed recommended service practices would also help your case.
Assuming you can live without ever using those service folks again, you have little to lose by going ahead in small claims court. Just weigh your case and decide.

A 2003 300 is an HPDI. Start your google and search. These motors were prone to all sorts of problems that would result in detonation of one or more cylinders that would toast the block. Are you sure that water in the oil is what caused it?

I can only go by what there telling me.But i can't see how water go in that tank. they removed and cleaned the tank an installed the new oil pump then reinstalled the tank. I can't see how a motor that ran well the week before, and that morning from the dock to gas dock then up the creek , to the mouth of the bay. then try to get it up on plan the first time , and had to back off only to re try to get it up on plan then the engine let loose sounded like a rod nock. Like i stated in my first post, had the work done and it was back at there shop in 3 weeks , for cracked block . I have a 3 yr warranty on parts and labor from Nov 2013 to Nov 2016. But they don't want to stand behind this one . I say there covering something up on this engine failure. I had 5 other boats with the same Yamaha set ups , and never had a problem with water in the oil holding tank. I'm willing to split the cost for the repair to the power head , put there not. I say this is Bull Shit.
