What would you pay for a 2001 Marlin?

I know this is a forward question, but what price would you put on a 2001 Marlin in excellent condition? The boat carries two Yam 250 2 strokes that purrrrr. The boat is very clean with little visible wear and tare from use. The motors do not have an hour meter,,,:? There is a Furuno fish finder and radar/vhf. the GPS isnt even worth mentioning. other options include: windlas, full canvas lamiglas enclosure, outriggers, and the standard microwave etc,,,,there is no trailer.

Price ranges across the country from 55k to 115k ask on comps. What a range!

What do you think?

There is a similar desriribed boat at a GW dealer in Nassachusetts. It is a 2000, I have seen it and it is also very clean. It also has 2 stroke engines. The price is 64,900, however, it has been on the market well over a year. Who knows the price in this enviroment. Start the prcing very low and see what they are willing to entertain.

How bad do you want to sell it? List a $49K to sell it otherwise upper 50's maybe lower 60's. The market is brutal to sell right now. If you had 4 strokes the price would be higher (not that OX-66's are bad just the market wants 4 strokes). If you're on the West Coast the price is higher because there aren't that many Gradys over there.

My 98 272 is listed for $49,000. No bites in 3 months. A friend just bought a 2001 282 with 200 HPDIs, Under 200 hours, and lots of extras for $40,000. Asking was $80,000.

I'm in the market for a 28 sailfish or release and I can't really find that good of a deal...I've been throwing offers out there and no "dealers" are biting...they are confident they will sell them...I guess I'll just have to wait for a repo...where's the best place to find the repos?

I found my boat on Yachtworld.But,Florida is the place to find deals.There is a repo yard in Ft.Lauderdale called National Liquidators.Transport from Ft.Lauderdale to Boston was 3100.00 so factor that in.

Looks like out of the few that voted, the consensus is 60-70k. Glad to see it. I'm trying to do my part to stimulate the economy and keep the boating industry going. I put a down payment down on the 2001 Marlin. I'm in the 60-70k range. Still working on financing, but the dealer is confident and I expect to take delivery in about 3 weeks.

Get agressive and low ball, you may be surprised.
Anxiety to buy on your part in this market could cost you.

ahill - you summed up exactly what I'm going through...buyer anexiety. There are some really great deals out there on every boat except a Grady...unless you buy new...they seem to be cutting great deals on new.

Well, it might be too much in this market, but there arent any to choose from. The ones that are available are way more. There are only 3 on the west coast that are 2000 or newer. (listed in yacht world) This boat is listed as at the lowest price coast to coast (ask). Most boats are older, more used, and have a higher asking price. Similar style boats (Stripers, Robalos, Pursuits etc) are similar in price. And those boats don't compare.

If anyone knows of any Marlins on the westcoast that are 2000 or newer, and are listed for less than 65k, please speak up.

Its not a done deal until I sign the purchase agreement

I am also on the market but 65k seems pretty good but not great. I've been looking at Gradys and Whalers nationwide from West coast for about 5 months. I see Northwest and Northeast market price going up last few weeks just because salmon season/spring is coming. But during same time Florida market price is in steadily declining. West coast just doesn't have enough Gradys nor enough educated Grady buyers.
I am not in boat industry or an expert but what I deduce from this is overall market is in continuing to decline except for many hopeful sellers and brokers but not all. The some boats that did sell in last couple of months were 35% to 45% below typical current asking price. So if you buy at $65k with all the options you need then I think it is good buy. By options I mean non electronics. Electronics go obsolete quick in 3-5 years (<10% of purchase price). But quality hard tops, windlass, trailer and so on don't depreciate much therefore more expensive to add later than buying one pre-equipped.
The time spent on water with family & friends are valuable too. So, keep searching and if you find something better before signing, then try to wiggle out legally, otherwise, relax and enjoy your new boat. $65k isn't bad.

Rhangrea, thanks for the post! I'm also in nor cal, and as you know, the west coast does not have many Gradys. I got a deposit down on what I believe is the best available. I agree that the price is good but not great. I couldve made a lowball offer and got lucky, but I didnt. End of story. There just arent any alternatives out here. I considered some east coast boats, but by the time I make the investment of flying out to the east coast for sea trials etc, I'm going to be in it for the same amount of money if not more.

I am still looking thoough, if something pops up, I'm open legally, for at least another week or so. The boat would have have to be newer with 4strokes in order to make the deal worth while,,,,,

went to the boat show in Sacramento yesterday. What a joke. Ski boats and runabouts with a few fishing boats. Seemed like the fishing boats were getting most of the attention. And of the comparable boat styles (Bayliner Trophy, Boston Whaler, C dory and a couple of other brands) none of them new compared to my 8 year old Marlin. Marlin is every bit as clean, the quality of construction is far beter. With all of the included options in the Marlin, I cant help but feel pretty good about the price when I compare it to the boat show "specials". A 22' Bayliner Tropy for 70k? I'll take my deal and run! They did have some killer Aluminum Jet Boats, but 60k for a Alumaweld would be hard to justfy when there is no head and I cant sleep over on it,,,,,,,,
