Hey guys. I have been watching my fuel burn like never before with the prices going up again. Didn't bother me much at 2.50 or 3.00 a gallon, but trying to pay attention now. I am looking to those of you that have had or do have similar boats and power to see if my crazy burn rates are normal or not.

Details, I have a 242 with a 1993 Evinrude 225. I do not have a hardtop and usually keep between 70 and 90 gallons of fuel in the tanks. I am only getting around 1.1 to 1.2 mpg. :jaw Anybody else have something similar or had one and remember what kind of fuel burn you were seeing?

I average 2.5mpg on my Seafarer 22 with hardtop, full curtains, and 130gallons of gas. It's an fuel injected Mercruiser 5.0L V-8. Right at cruise, I get around 3mpg, and hammer down I get right at 2mpg. I normally run it at 3,600 rpm, which is about 34-35mph. That's where I get 2.5mpg. That's of course in calm seas. Add in some 3-4' rollers and it goes down some.

I'm getting 1.4- 1.6 for average trips. If it's really rough I'm down to maybe 1.

Marlin 30, twin 300's on a good day , with wind at my back 1.2-1.4 full fuel, ice and 7 people. paying $4.85 for ethanol free at the marina....unfortunately in this part of Florida 55-60 miles off shore in normal, so I can spend $750. for one day of fishing....really starting to hurt.

I get 1.3 mpg @ 25kts. 300 Marlin 2 x F225 and all tanks full. I can get 2.0 mpg at 5 kt sailboat speed!

Our GW360 with trip 300s typically gets 0.6 mpg at 5000 rpm and 35 knots with full fuel, water and six guys going diving. At 4500 rpm we get 0.7 and on a good day we might get 0.8 with a light load. A really good day is with the admiral off plane at 1.3 mpg.

Went to Claypile rigs 75 miles out of Galveston on June 2 with six shooters to load up on red snapper. A line of thunderstorms chopped up the water so bad most of the guys got so sick they just wanted to get in the water rather than stay on the boat in 10-12 foot short period swells. Didn't help that two of them were so hung over from the night before that they could not even get their gear on. Before leaving the rig I went up on the pulpit to see how scary it would be for a newby to retrieve the rig hook (my usual mate and divemaster was one of the sick ones). The swells were so high I did not want to get closer so we just cut it loose and left it on the rig. The water was calm by the time we got to Galveston bay so we opened it up and and later spun a hub about five miles from our slip in Clear Lake and had to limp in at the end. Burned $1700 in fuel and bagged one 12 lb snapper! Boating is fun.

I average 2.5-2.75 mpg on my 95' 244 with a 300 Suzuki. This is loaded for fishing with 90 gallons of fuel and 4 guys. Im usually running around 4,000K and the high 20's-30 mph cruising, my boat does not have a tower and has crappy bottom paint.

My previous motor was the original 95' 225 Yamaha SWS carbureted motor and I was lucky to get 1.5 mpg running 4K and cruising around 22-23 mph, anything over 4200 rpm, I would get 1mpg.

Cruising in easy seas at 30mph, getting 1.7 to 1.8. Pushing into seas with bow down, as low as 1.5, 1.6ish.

This is full fuel 200 gallons, full water and full load for offshore day.

Rowdy, sounds your old rig is very close to mine as far as power and burning about the same. It's a shame this motor runs so dang good. I can't find a decent excuse for repower except fuel economy, and I don't run enough to make up the difference. I think a flow meter is next for me to figure out what my efficiency sweet spot is. I also have no tower and crappy bottom paint. Can't wait for winter so I can get rid of that bottom paint!

Not sure, but the 4 banger is much much better than any old 2 striker by a long shot. I should check mine, but try not to and just fill it ann enjoy.

A guess would be between 3- 4.

F200 on Overnighter. Bottom pain

1998 272 with Yamaha OX66 225's: I usually run at 4000 and get between 1.4 and 1.5 doing 31 to 32 mph. That is with four on board, 3/4 fuel load, full refrigerator, ice and flags flying. If I go a little faster milage goes down, but if I slow down a bit I don't see all that much of an increase. I have seen 2 mpg and even a little better (with a good tail wind) while just sliding around the marinas, but I've also seen 1.1 doing the same thing, so go figure. All in all not too bad I guess. Is that rationalization on my part? :shock:
