Today’s plan was to change the large and small fuel/water separating filters, the VST filter and the filter above the VST. So when I went to remove the filter above the VST I found a spring clamp that the tabs had broken off with a second clamp on top. They had become enmeshed and the only way to get them off was to destroy them. In the car to get another clamp. 20 mins each way. Re-installing the VST from there went smoothly enough.

Ok. Time to change the small fuel/water attached to the motor. Remove old filter. Completely different to replacement filter. I was positive I ordered the correct one. I also think the fuel starvation issues were due to a kinked fuel line coming from the boat to the filter. Was kinked right at the connection to the filter. Tried and tried but couldn’t get the kink out.

Ok. Let’s change the large fuel/water separating filter. The boat had the blue high volume Yamaha filter. Can’t get them in Australia. Got a Racor filter with clear bowl and drain tap, as I have had on previous boats. Won’t fit. The tap hits the self draining deck hose. No chance of getting the hose off and the screws attaching the filter to the boat are all burred. Have already thrown out the blue filter. Head home.

Check the small filter part number. Correct, but find the filter assembly is not a 2006 but has been changed to a 2007 onwards, at some stage. Need 2007 filter. Also the 2006 filter connections point down and the 2007 point out horizontally. So the fuel line is slightly too short for the horizontal fitting. Fine at first but as the pipe aged it has kinked. So I either have to replace the whole pipe which will be quite a job or join a small section to the existing pipe which is not my preferred option.

So things didn’t go quite as planned. Who wants to go fishing when you can have this sort of fun on the weekends?

So, your saying that some people have boat repairs that " don't " go like that. I had no idea.....:)

Note to self. “Don’t throw out the old filter until you make sure the new on fits!!”
Looks like a 2 week wait.

Welcome to my world. Cannot count the times I cussed while muttering "Can't wait to sell this fing boat" In the end, these bumps in the road usually work themselves out.

Your racor replacement number is b23013 for the Yamaha size. The best fuel line on the market is oem Omc line. Not cheap but worth every penny.

I think it’s 32013 Sparkdog.

Why are Yamaha 10 micron filters not available in Australia?

Why are Yamaha 10 micron filters not available in Australia?

The boat shop said they weren’t made any more.
Told them you can still get them in the US.
Just looked confused.
I can’t source any in Aus. Shipping costs from the US are crazy.
Can get the Sierra replacement here. Will take 2 weeks.

Thinking of getting a longer fuel line after the primer bulb.
The connection between the fuel line and the one going to the filter is in the cable loom.
Hopefully that will allow me to get enough length to trim off the kinked piece and re-attach the line without kinking.

Haven’t been to the boat yet to see if this will work.
Well I have 2 weeks to sort it out.

Shipping looks about 60us dollars for a 5 day ship to Australia for 1 filter. That’s crazy. I stock these filters by the dozens. If you have the bowl, you may be able to get the replacement element.

I use to use https://www.shipito.com/en/?gclid=EAIaIQobChMI8rapxIKk6gIVECUrCh1rcAN9EAAYASAAEgKCxPD_BwE
When I was buying stuff in USA, you can buy several things and they will pack them together.
I don't know what their prices are now but use to be cheap. I even bought heavy stuff like brake rotors and calipers in years gone by.
Our $ is low now and it's not worth it as you don't save much. i brought some Yam oil filters last year because they are very expensive here for the 4.2 lt engine.

I have the correct filter and bowl. The drain at the bottom of the bowl hits the self draining deck pipe. The blue Yamaha filter on the boat when I got it was shorter and just fitted. If you cut the drain tap off the Racor filter it would fit. We have heaps of filters with bowls but not the blue Yamaha type.

Can't you lift the fitting up a little so it will fit? Or move the fitting to the left a bit so the filter is away from the drain pipe.

The screws are all burred so a screw driver won’t grab. Haven’t tried but I don’t think I can get a drill in there to drill them out.

Try grinding the heads off with a dremel then you can grab them with multi grips. Other option use an impact driver preferably a manual one, the one you hit with a hammer.

The racor with the blue bowl are the very old style. The racor bowls have been clear for the past 15 years or so.
Sometimes to get the racor to fit if it is close, I cut off the nipple, open the drain all the way, screw the filter to the head, then close the drain. This buys you an extra half inch clearance.
One other thing I do is loosen one screw and tilt the filter head sideways. Install the filter and remount. Sometimes there is no choice but to raise the head.

No it's the new Racor filter and bulb. The blue filter is the one below that was on the boat. The drain tap on the bowl makes the Racor too long.
Can't loosen the filter as the screws are burred. I have ordered the Sierra equivalent to the filter below. Going to take 2 weeks.
