I purchased a 2001 282 last year and it's bothered me ever since that my windlass doesn't have freefall. Takes forever to let line out and does really help with trying to accurately anchor. I believe its original the boat. The tag/sticker in the photo has disintegrated and can't find any other markings. Any help is appreciated.

My 282 is an 2004 and looks just like that one and does not free fall either. The model is Horizon 500 and they do not make that model any longer.

Guys that you very much for the quick replies. Has anyone replaced their windlass on the 282 with freefall and it be a direct fit? I did an extensive search with no luck.

Lewmar/Horizon makes the Profish freefall windlass, and has the lion's share of the recreational windlass market, including the one on your boat. I am sure they could tell you what would would have a close, or exact, footprint.
The Horizon line was made by Simpson Lawrence, and Lewmar bought them out in about 2000.

Lewmar has printable templates for each model on line. Unfortunately I was not able to find a model that fit the existing hole pattern from the 500. So a little mote work will be required to install a new one once mine bites the bullet.
