It is like fish porn to me, I have been watching both North and South seasons from day 1.

Probably influenced reality, but every Sunday I can't wait to catch the newest episode.

I like the fishing but the staged drama is too much.
The ridiculous "fish alarm and drag click" pisses me off too..

And you know they have never actually gotten $20 a pound, thats a bunch of crap.


My brother was just up in Gloucester on vacation. Saw some of those guys at the dock.
Those guys are running charters for haddock. Japanese market was pretty much shut and they have no one to sell tuna.

NOAA Fisheries strongly encourages fishermen to get confirmation that a dealer will buy your fish before you leave on a trip. If you land a bluefin that you are not able to sell, read on for reporting instructions. NOAA Fisheries requires bluefin tuna to be sold only to Federally permitted Atlantic tunas dealers. NOAA Fisheries has become aware that some dealers are limiting their purchases of bluefin tuna due to market conditions, and that some fishermen have not been able to sell their catch. To ensure that landed fish are fully utilized, NOAA Fisheries encourages commercial bluefin fishermen to locate a dealer that will purchase their fish prior to leaving for a fishing trip. What should I do if a fish cannot be sold? 1) Whether a bluefin is sold or not, vessel owners are required to report their entire catch of bluefin tuna retained or discarded, within 24 hours of the landing(s) or end of each trip by one of these following methods. A report confirmation number is provided upon successful reporting: • Reporting online via the this website (HMS Permit Shop) • Using the HMS Catch Reporting App on a smartphone or similar device • Calling 888-872-8862 (Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. until 4:30 p.m.). 2) In addition to the above, if a fish cannot be sold, the vessel operator MUST contact NOAA Fisheries at 978-281-9213 and report the fish, immediately upon landing. If requested, the fish must be made available to enforcement for tagging. Alternatively, the vessel operator can request that an Atlantic tunas dealer tag the bluefin tuna and then report it as being “landed but not sold,” but this is solely at the dealer’s discretion.

I come from a commercial fishing family so it's hard for me to watch that stuff. My god fathers family was one of only a few that could purse seine giant BF's. They would follow them from Mass. through the PC and over to San Diego. My dad worked on the boat for a handful of years and got his 100 ton before moving to Florida. It's a little to fake and produced. Still not as bad as that spearfishing show they had on that was based out of the WC of Florida.

Cannot stand Paul or .. well, I am "okay" with Tyler most the time...

Ralph was a hoot. He and I emailed back and forth a few times .. I think.. season 1? might have been season 2. His son was in the Navy and stationed in Korea.

Love watching it but Spectrum is a pain to catch it so I usually DL the episodes after the fact.

I cant take much of Paul either,it'd be hard to be stuck on aboat with him,don't focus on the drama,l like the boats and the rigging, kinda weird tj dates Tyler sister when he dislikes Tyler so......drama

yea, have not kept up as much as I like. I watched a couple seasons and then lost track...then came back, then spectrum messed up the channels and I fell off the trail of tuna heh...but I enjoy it nonetheless.

It’s a fun show, you’ve got to remember it’s entertainment and for me it satisfies something needed with saltwater sights and sounds. I think it’s funny though when everytime preceding a bite their fish finder goes beep beep, beep beep and the cameraman zooms in on just the right rod. I want that psychic dude and fishfinder on my boat!
Seems like Tyler’s sister has kinda brought the fleet together to play nice .
Kinda like Nick in the southern fleet these days. If you go on .”The hull truth” forum “northeast “ regional section Dave Marciano regularity chimes into the conversations. Really nice guy.
He laughs about it all and is personally amazed at the shows success and the money he’s made, as he says”just livin the dream”!

No doubt, LT. I watch it more for the enjoyment of seeing fish come in...hence why not a regular fan. You can always predict when they lose a fish etc. the behind the scene action is far too much drama.

Marciano is always a good guy. He hates Ralph with a passion, but I get it...Ralph has zero filter...heh...have a story about that but not an open forum one lol...but, Ralph means well, just does not seem like it

Marciano is exactly what you see. His kids seem to be good people too, so must be doing something right. Tyler...well, can’t seem to totally dislike the kid...but his sister is his saving grace. She keeps him in check most the time.

All in all, fun show. Their attitudes remind me a lot of the people I used to play paintball with and against...so I take it all with a grain of salt and enjoy the fishing aspect.

Now I need to go catch up

oh....and the guy that spears tuna....THAT guy is like Paul...annoys the livin...yea...heh

I have to admit I watch that show, even though it is fake. Almost like a man's version of the Real House Wives of New Jersey, I guess. I actually had the opportunity through a friend-of-a-friend to go fishing out of Oregon Inlet on a tuna boat from up north. It was not one of the boats on the show, but he obviously new all those guys and what the real deal was. Crazy to me how they totally fake the fish purchase. There is no getting the price at the dock. They take the samples, but then it goes off to auction. They don't get the price for days. And, yes, it is like $4-8/lbs. Captain told us a lot of New York fish buyers purchase North Carolina caught fish in Japan and then ship it back to New York so they can upcharge it as bluefin "imported from Japan!"

Boy that is a hard life. Those guys would come in from fishing, sleep on the boat for a few hours, like 3, and then go right back out. It was damn rough a cold when I was there, and we fished for just about 24 straight hours. Captain was not going in without one!

I was asking people about the show on an entertainment basis. I am so sorry if this was offensive to the real commercial fisherman.

Check out Battlefish as well. Still a lot of ridiculous man drama for tv but it's an interesting portrayal of our fishery here in the Pacific NW. It's all entertaining to watch in the off season.

Bobby Bugs is fishing for the South. I guess living on the South shore of Long Island makes you a Southerner. Ralph is from Brooklyn and the Otts live in Broad Channel on Jamaica Bay. I do enjoy the show.
