Winshield wiper problem

The rest position for the wiper on my 1983 Tournament 19 is too far to the starboard side which carries most of the wiper off the windshield. Can the wiper arm be repositioned? If so,how? Is there another fix?

It can be repositioned. You need to remove the arm at the base where it attaches to the motor. It is a splined shaft that comes out of the motor. Rotate the arm a spline or two until it's resting place is where you want it. Note that it will rotate the equal amount more to the other side that you have corrected it in it's resting place. Before removing it might be a good idea to mark it's current location (at the mounting) with a marker. It will make it easier to remember the starting point and therefore how much you have rotated it.

I don't know about your exact model. They are secured. Some use a bolt to pinch the arm around the spline, some use a little lever on the bottom that prevents the arm from coming off. Either way, there is a mechanism to hold it on that you will have to figure out before lifting the arm off...

There may be a small set screw in the base, also. Use penetrating oil and gentle persuasion - don't force anything! :wink:

Wiper arm

I found what looks to be a spring release tab on the bottom of the arm. Even though I soaked the assembly with penetrating oil and pulling out the release, the arm would not budge. However, it turns out that the tip of the arm has an adjustment for the angle of the wiper blade which will do what I need to do. Now if I can find a suitable wiper blade, I will be back in business.
