New member here. Not new to boating or offshore fishing. Divorced a few years ago..lost boat...and I'm ready to get back on the salt!!!!!! Im looking at a project boat 2004 222 Grady. Hull transom floor solid as a rock..it's in very good shape actually. Prior owner got in a situation and didn't think..took several breakers over the transom flooded boat swamped engine etc. My question is wiring on this year model Grady....was originally this wired with tin coated wiring from factory?

Thanks for any help...hope to have this project up n going by March n finished up by early summer...I will provide updates as it goes along.

Not sure about 2004 but in 1996 the wiring from the factory was not tinned.
Good luck - and keep us posted!

Just happen to see this. I have a 2006 222. Bought it used and it was very used. The wiring is not tinned but surprisingly have not had a single wiring problem. I just replaced the main breaker in the back as a precaution. Had to replace wash down and freshwater pumps as well but not a wiring problem. Everything else is fine.

hey Skippy... good luck with your project! I am in the midst of my project boat (1984 24' Caribbean) and pulled all my wiring. When I am done the peace of mind will be worth the effort.

Ok, so that said... is it your intention to pull everything and replace it all? If so I can post some places where I purchased my wire/breakers/connections etc.

Disclaimer: I am not a professional... proof of that is in my post where I asked tons of questions (Electrical Upgrades). I took it very slow... enjoy doing it myself... and tried to penny pinch wherever I could without compromising quality and safety. There are people here who know their stuff and are more than willing to help.

I've got the same boat. Replaced wash down and a few bulbs. Need to do tilt/trim seals on my Yam 225 4s. PM me if you need wiring pics etc. as I have the boat here at the house.

Going to start on this in Feb. I'm first going to check wiring for corrosion On each end of every connection.I'll take it back 2 inches n see. If it looks clean I'll Replace connections. New busbars battery switch, cables and all fuses and panel switches float switch, pumps, light bulbs etc. Run all new wiring for Vhf, electronics and everything on the TTop.

If I see corrosion or breaks in wire I'll completely rewire if needed. Hoping to avoid that if possible...time will tell.

Skippy,
While you're in there you might as well replace the fuel line and sending unit gasket. Not a difficult or expensive task just for the piece of mind.

Well...got all the supplies in...now the fun begins. Decided I'm gonna do a complete rewire using tin coated marine wire throughout.

Go to all the guts ripped out if her yesterday. All old wire removed. Ran all new tinned wired back. Installed new battery cables and selector switch. Next step will be thinking in all the wires to the pumps switches etc. Used about 150 ft of double strand tinned wire to do all pumps etc in back of boat to switch on console. Making progress.

Appreciate the update. I'll be following.
I'm assuming you have raw and freshwater, live well, cockpit light, etc.

Next go gonna install that..hook up fuel sending unit..clean up bilge area tighten up how wires are run. Try n run all new wire for running lights and if time allows install vhf n GPS.. slow but steady progress....sucks having to work for a living....Lolo.

While you're at it replace all the running lights with sealed LED units.

Update..... Got to play for a few hours on Sunday. Installed new washdown pump
Ran all new wires for nav lights( waiting for lights to arrive) ran power cable to console for GPS as well as two separate power lines thru and up to rsidobox on console. Ran new power cable for fuel sending unit and tied that in.
Bleached out bilge area waterproofed all wire connections over butt connectors with silicone . She's coming together.
Ok
Wii install all lights tighten up all wires n run in a nice clean path to and along bulkheads/ walls etc. hook up raido n GPS.

Order trimtab kit and remove Bennett lines n wires replace from Bennett to lencos buy running all new power n wires for that but use existing tabs..

I think she will be ready at that point to start working on her power for the back!!
