I'll run one at you.
I have the GW companion seat (2-person curved seat versus a 2nd helm chair) on the starboard side of the boat. One of the complaints on the Marlin and possibly other models is the seat height is lower than the typical helm chair and is not adjustable. It makes looking out the windshield tough for some.
I was thinking of a 6" rectangular box that would fit between the fiberglass box (part of the liner) and the companion seat that is mounted to it. It would essentially raise the companion seat 6" and provide the capability to add (2) sliding drawers for storage. I'm thinking this could be offered for all GW boats with the companion seat, all that needs to change is the box size (get this off the companion seat base) as the seat is slightly fitted in size for each boat that leverages the companion seat. Done right for easy dimension change, I think there would be a lot of interest.
The box would have to be strong enough to support the seat and people that sit on it. I was thinking 6" height 3/8" starboard with interior corner blocking and center supports for the box and the same material for the bottom and top covers. One center support effectively bifurcates the box into two sections. One drawer in section one, would face the aisle in the helm area and slide in and out into the helm walkway like the (3) draw stack does under the helm chair. The second drawer in section two, would face aft into the cockpit and slide in and out over the livewell. You wound have to have the livewell lid closed to access the drawer, not a big deal. The drawers do not run the full length of the box, three additional 6" supports could be added between the center support and the side walls. These two supports would be staggered and tie the front and back of the box to the center support for maximum strength.
It would be good if it could be done with the same circular Southco latches on each drawer as well as the same face plate look as the stock seats to match well as you have done with your other work. I could draw up a quick sketch if this is something you would be interested. This raises the seat for better passenger visibility and provides (2) additional pull out drawers - about 2X the size of the three stack drawers.
For all reading this with companion seats; chime in and let us know if this would be of value to you.
