WTB Garmin 24 Fantom Dome Radar

Get in West Marines Captains Club and wait for 5x points week. 20% discount. Garmin units are not discounted so West deal is best around.

Why not just get the Garmin Fantom 24x as it's still readily available just about everywhere? I would also disagree with the statement that Garmin units aren't discounted as they have sales every year for them through BOE Marine, Hodges Marine, the GPS Store and so forth. I got my Garmin 943xsv through BOE Marine, of which they actually price matched another website and I've seen the same unit on their website, as well as others, for sale before in the past.

For your size boat I would stay with 18 dome. I have a GMR Fantom 18 on my 268 Islander.

The GMR Fantom 18 and 24 are discontinued. You may be able to find one discounted.

Personally I would go with a GMR Fantom 18x optionally on a pedestal mount. $2,199.99. You won't see a current model discounted from any reputable Garmin Dealer. Search "garmin gmr 18x fanthom radar buy".

If you don't have a autopilot installed you should also consider adding a magnetic heading sensor like Garmin SteadyCast or GPS 24xd antenna with built in heading sensor. This is especially important at slow speeds, at night and in the fog. Radar is disoriented when boat is moving slow-GPS heading inaccurate.

You won't see a current model discounted from any reputable Garmin Dealer.

That is again incorrect. If you do a Google search for a Garmin 943xsv you'll see that it's marked down from multiple reputable Garmin dealer websites like Cabela's, Bass Pro Shops, The GPS Store, Walmart and even Amazon. They have it listed at $1,279.99 as opposed to the Garmin website which has it listed for $1,499.99 which is more than $200 off, and yes it is the same exact part number of 010-02366-61.

Same with the Garmin 8610xsv... Garmin has it on their website for $2,799.99, but Amazon, Cabelas, Bass Pro Shops and so forth have it listed at $2,399.99

I have a Garmin Fantom 18 for sale for $500 if you want it. The catch is it doesn’t display any targets and Garmin wants $910 to fix it.

Garmin implements a unilateral Minimum Retail Price (MRP) policy, meaning dealers cannot advertise, offer, or sell products below the MRP, and Garmin will unilaterally determine compliance, with potential penalties for non-compliance, such as loss of discounts or even access to the brand.

All the big sellers comply. Some no-same Amazon sellers and random sites that buy old stock who are not worried about loosing their Garmin Dealership don't care. Garmin is more flexible with discontinued, closeouts or bundles.

The best way I have found to get a "discount" on a Garmin unit is West Marine Gold Advantage program. Standard 1X is 4% in rewards. Sometimes 3X and occasionally 5X rewards (20%). West Gold membership is free with BoatUS towing subscription.

You have to watch out for the differences in what is being sold. The included Maps, transducer, etc. Some 943xsv might be same model but older g3 maps.
943 has been bundled alot with the older radar and I have seen variations in maps and transducers. Sometimes the transducer is not included.

If you really look at the very very latest Garmin product, it is not discounted.

the 943 has been around for quite a while and they are now making much larger xx43 series. Same goes for 8610, fairly old model, older than 943 even.
Maybe they want to clear out stuff in the same way they cleared out 7600 series

The fantom 18 or 24 is not the very latest so it will be discounted. That makes it a bargain over a fantom 18x. Not much difference.

I got my fantom24 from Hodges a few years ago. It was "brand new repackaged", full warranty, for price of a Fantom 18 that was out of stock. So I got the 24.
I would not have paid more for a 24.

The 24 will give a little better target separation but the 18 is absolutely fine for what anyone with a Grady needs.

I guess I’m confused… sure, the xx43xsv as well as the 8400/8600xsv series have been out for a few years but what else is there available in a 10”-12” full touchscreen MFD from Garmin at this point? The only other option is the 9000 series, which starts off at a 19” screen and at $10k, of which I also believe it was just released within the last year or so? So yes, it’s likely not going to have any great deals on it because it is pretty much brand new. That being said… to say that “You won't see a current model discounted from any reputable Garmin Dealer.” is simply untrue as both of what I linked are current model Garmin units and they are being discounted from reputable Garmin dealers. Whether that’s because they’re going to come out with a new product in the near future, though probably doubtful that it will be this season as it’s already April, I can’t say. In theory, it’s possible that they could come out with a new product or multiple new products every year. I guess we’ll have to wait for next winter to see if they do. Anyway, back to the topic at hand.

I did say very latest, not current.

Garmin has way too many models out right now. My guess is something's going to happen. Especially if, as you say, 943xsv is being sold at discount.

The 943xsv's are not being discounted by reputable Garmin dealers! Garmin is very deliberate to protect it's dealer's margins. And the dealers fall in line because it's good for them. Maybe a couple of flakey unauthorized resellers. Take a look...

Last post that I’ll make here and then I’ll bow out so as to not derail another thread… Walmart, GPS City and Boats.Net, as well as several others, are all Garmin authorized dealers. All of them also have the 943xsv on sale with the same model number of 010-02366-61

Cabelas and Bass Pro Shops had the items listed at cheaper prices but it appears they went back up again. The Amazon website sells Garmin products through Garmin authorized dealers as well, even if sometimes it’s not directly through them. Case in point would be GPS City. I never said anything about Defender, Hodges or the other websites you mentioned being the lesser price. Though some of those might price match, because like I said before BOE Marine did for me when I bought my 943xsv from them. In fact, the amazon link that I used for the Garmin 8610xsv, and have once again linked below, is actually sold by The Garmin Store themselves lol. It’s also the same model number of 010-02091-51 but it’s $2,399.99 on Amazon vs $2,799.99 on the Garmin website. Riddle me that Batman. Regardless of who Amazon farms it out to, they still have authorized Garmin retailers, same as Walmart, Boats.com and other companies being a Garmin authorized dealer, them selling both of the above listed products for less than their MSRP and with the same model numbers.
